Very Good Musical Knight’s Tale

IN GENERAL

======

If people like William Thatcher(Heath Ledger) were not present in History and people like Prince Edward (James Purefoy) did not had the heart to recognize bravery at the cost of traditions LABOUR would never have gotten their name. I am all for victory to COMMAN MAN, William is a peasants son, but has a dream to compete in Jousting matches a game of Lords all over Europe. This did it for me, Heath Ledger looked like a commoner than a Lord. His 2 friends acting as his attendants Wat Falhurst (Alan Tudyk) (Mark Addy)Roland looked perfect people in search of riches and some fun. Like me.

THE BEGINNING

=========

I cannot tell you the effect this film wraps around you, you are just bored in the start of the film, you are saying I have seen so many films like this, I am not a history buff, I don’t even care if Jousting is a Royal sport, what is so great about Royals holding their lances and dehorsing their opponents on the other side of the divider, just to do this you need a royal bloodline is not enough for me. It needs more than that to get me interested in this film. I don’t even care if Williams wants to compete in the name of his master and earns 15 silver coins after a bit of silly training.

IT ROCKS SUDDENLY

=============

The first Jousting match starts with the song "We Will Rock You" and suddenly this movie has my heart and mind fully tuned into every small details it is showing and the joy starts there onwards, for once I saw in a English film a boy is chasing a girl,   this is more natural, a boy is wooing the girl he likes. I am fed up of seeing girls taking the imitative in a relationship every movie I see there is the dormant guy not sure of himself and the girl taking the first step. Come world the first step belongs to the guy. A beautiful damsel is supposed to be shy and sure of her charms, the moth is attracted to the flame, I have never know the flame is chasing the moth. I don’t have to explain who is the moth and who is the flame.

MUSIC ALL THE WAY

=============

There are many good songs in the film, be it sword fights or jousting all is filled up with good beautiful songs, lots of lyrics worth humming. "Business as usual" this film is a strong experiment in the art of fusion, it really tapes you to the concept of seeing old historical costumes and sets with modern day music.

A common man Williams lives in a place called Cheapside sees a small girl holding a lance and declaring that she is a fan of Ulrich Von Liechtenstein of the Gelderland

is a beautiful scene of film-world, scenes like these make a film beautiful, I enjoyed seeing John Thatcher (Christopher Cazenove) sitting among prince and queen, that is the power of hard work. Honest labor will uplift you in life, sticking to your guns even at the cost of loosing all is too noble a thought to let it die down in the world full of deceit and embedded deceptions.

GEOFFREY CHAUCER and others

======================

I will damn you in my fiction for eternity Chaucer (Paul Bettany) says to one of the characters in the film was too beautiful to see it again and again, there is a place for Authors in history and every time. Paul Bettany played a very beautiful part, you were almost wishing you could say things like him now or in history, the letters dictated by Paul to love of Williams Lady Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon) made me wish to fall in love all over again. There is something beautiful about beautiful words, all good words were spoken by Chaucer in this film, the language and the acting behind it was very amusing and uplifting. Shannyn Sossamon was good looking but she lacked the freshness of a lady of palaces, she looked foxy all right, as she herself says I am a foxy lady. But to me ladies of good upbringing do not climb the bed in that widespread fashion, somehow that was very unlady like. I was wishing to see Kate (Laura Fraser) in some romance herself, she could have looked good doing her own thing, why the candidate for her could have been Chaucer, he with beautiful words and she with   blacksmith’s humor could have looked interesting. I guess too much of the time was taken in showing jousting and sword fights. The CODE of knights made me relive it here with this film. I read so many good stories of Knights and I used to fantasize about them, only 2 films bought the real code of knights close to what it was in history THE KINGHT’S TALE and the 13th Warrior.

Rufus Sewell(Count Adhemar) final fall on his behind was sweet justice, I hate people who put up false airs and rate petty things above humans, his remarks about the armor was so close to reality, I see lots of people in our enlightened world still go by the code of count Adhemar. I feel sorry for humans who rate people with what money they have in their pockets. HUMBLE BEGINNINGS always gave best of humans.

There was something noble in KNIGHTS of history and artful films like these help relive the era and the honor they used to live by is not bad at all, Williams refusing to surrender his dream of becoming a champion even for his lady love was very good, he one time scolds Jocelyn for making fun of his goal, he even refuses to run and save his love instead he gets arrested and his friends though practical stands by him, these qualities should be shown again and again in our films.

I have not given even the basics of the plot, it is too unbelievably enjoyable film so I will advise all to just get up and buy your beautiful film A KNIGHT’S TALE. A romping film with enough comedy and action delivering the movie magic in all fronts.

Yo !! Knights of the film world take care of our entertainment !!!
