*I had great expectations from this movie which most critics have rated highly but A Mighty heart turned out to be a mighty let down.
This movie was shot mostly in my own pune city there was a great deal of controversy and media trouble when this film was being shot anyways coming back to the movie
A Mighty heart is based on the real life story of wall street journal Daniel Pearl who was kidnapped and murdered by militants in Pakistan.
The Main Protagonist is played called Angelina Jolie who plays the role of Marie Ann the wife of slain journalist. Daniel Pearl.
Daniel Pearl is a celebrated wall street journalist who after a successful stint in India goes to Karachi Pakistan to interview a famous Islamic Leader called Gilani but instead is lured into a trap and kidnapped by some shady Islamic group led by Omar shaikh (played by Ali khan)
Marie Ann is completely devastated yet she manages to keep her composure to search for her husband. she tries everything within her means for his release.Irrfan Khan plays to role of Captain a Pakistani detective who tries his best to secure the release of the kidnapped journalist.
The Militants bargain for the release of prisoners from usa jails for Daniels release munfortunately all their efforts go in vain and they are not able to save Daniel Pearl From brutal death by the hands of his kidnappers. The role was absolutely tailor made for Angelina Jolie its rather sad to see some people trying to make money after a personal tragedy.
The director Michael winter bottom didn’t even bother to show some real picture of Marie Ann.. most of the movie was shot in Pune and Mumbai’s Muslim areas and passed of as Karachi Pakistan.
The main target audience is western for them and for the western audience its hard to distinguish the differences between India and Pakistan. there are many things which are Indian and not Pakistani but guess it doesn’t make much difference to the film.
Of the cast Angelina Jolie is just passable as Marie Ann , Irfran Khan has excelled as Captan. Ali Khan is a surprise package he looks perfect in those cold steely eyes as Omar Shaikh .
The biggest led down is the director Michael Winter bottom who manages to make the movie look more like a narrated documentary than a movie
overall a Mighty let down
