Decent enough

I had to shift my belongings from near Manipal Hospital to Marathahalli (both in Bangalore, a distance of about 8 km). I called a number of packers and the estimates ranged from 4k to 20k (Leo Packers). The last time I had used Neo Packers who had smashed up my furniture while moving it from one flat to another in the same building , so wasn’t looking forward to the shifting experience. I went through mouthshut and since all the Movers and Packers had been roundly abused, finally went with ANZ since they did seemed to have a lesser number of negative posts. In the event they didnt turn out to be too bad.

First, they were willing to come home to check out the furniture to be moved (so were most of the others, but not Agarwal Packers). Their quote was also a little lower than the other better known movers (Agarwal, Times et al). Also it helped that they had replied to a few of the criticisms posted about them online - seemed to signify that at least they were a little sensitive to public opinion!

The people managed by an executive called Jameel turned up on time, packing was more or less well organized, but there was no packing sheet - so it’s a matter of good faith as to how many cartons were packed or delivered. The glassware/ fragile items were decently enough packed (though they used newspaper instead of confetti) and the material was transported in a covered/ locked truck.

Packing material was a little threadbare but they did use bubble wrap for washing machine/ fridge which most of the other packers I contacted were unwilling to use for an intra-city movement. Unpacking and reassembling was also brisk though they don’t allow you to keep the cartons for a few extra days so that you can unpack at your leisure. Staff were polite enough (for movers/ packers you probably can’t expect much better). One piece of wooden furniture had some chipping but it was on the wall facing side of furniture which hadn’t been shifted since my last movement, so not sure whether it was due to the current movement or already there from before. Everything got over by 6.30 pm (start was 9.30 am).

So overall not too bad an experience. However some caveats for this review:

  1. The movement was within the same city - no clue how they handle inter-city movement

  2. My furniture could be dismantled, so it’s not too difficult to transfer

  3. The lift was available in both places, so that helped a lot both in terms of speed as well as saving fridge/ washing machine etc from getting bashed around

  4. Finally the chipping of the furniture...can’t say it was due to them, but can’t say it wasn’t due to them either! If it wasn’t for that, would probably have given them 4 stars.
