THE ART OF DREAMING
If you sleep, dreaming will be a major part of it (may be even more important than snoring). Keep in mind that I am not talking about day dreaming, but the dreams that comes from the subconscious mind and not the conscious part.
We have seen in the history that many events have been revealed in dreams. Even in the holy books, we can see how some dreams have affected the future. This leads to some questions all around.
Are the events that we see in our dreams really going to happen? Is some one trying to convey to some message to you in your dreams? Will these dreams come true? Well, these are the questions that people usually have about the dreams. But Wes Craven had other plans! He just gave a certain amount of difference to the dreams!
THE HORROR GENIUS
The attack of zombies, vampires and the other different kinds of evil spirits and demons or atleast a psychotic serial killer form the usual theme of a horror movie. Here, in Wes Cravens A Nightmare on Elm Street, the horror comes from the mind and not from the surroundings.
It is nothing unusual to dream - nightmares are nothing specific. But if your nightmares come true - you can be killed in your dreams and you wont wake up alive! So sleeping is no more a way of relaxing and replenishing energy.
The average person will dream over 150, 000 dreams in a lifetime. Usually, it is in the dreams that we can be assured safety. We are free to dream about anything in this world. As we wake up, we are back to the normal world as if nothing has happened. But in this specific thriller from Wes Craven, we are not even safe in our dreams.
MASTER OF DREAMS
The dream master called Freddy can kill you in his world of nightmares - as long as you are asleep, you are in his world and there will be no escape from him. The only way of saving your life is to wake up - better have an alarm set!
Just like The Wishmaster, this is another great work from Wes Craven with a difference that the horror movie fans may have anticipated. The first of the movie series is supposed to be the best, released in 1984. It is a wonder if you wont prefer to stay awake after watching this movie and the creepy scenes in it.
FREDDY RULES
The villain of the story, Freddie was a murderer who was burned to death by the people after he was set free by the court. Even after death, he is still there, but this time killing people through their dreams. The movie is centered around some teenagers, Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) and her friends who get murdered one by one in their dreams.
But later this girl finds out the truth about these mysterious deaths as she herself has managed to see the killer herself in her dreams. But no one believes her. This makes her think about an idea to destroy the ruthless killer herself.
This sets the final stages of the movie. The end of the movie gives you enough questions to think about as you go for the next sequel in the Nightmare series. There are lots of Freddy movies in the stores now.
A CLASSIC WORK
The credit of the movies success goes to Wes Craven who has been successful on most occasions in giving us the unexpected, and also Heather Langenkamp who has done a really good job in the movie. I cant remember seeing her in much movies, but she has done well in this one (I will give special applause to her high level screaming effects).
The special effects seen in this movie is really great for a movie of 1984 and the way in which the dream sequences are captured, needs a special applause. No wonder Wes Craven is the master of horror movies!
Just look at the ways in which the Freddy enters and some of the victims get killed to know the imaginations of this man. He havent even left the dreams of the human beings alone! The way in which he has expanded this minute idea is just amazing!
If you are looking for a horror movie with a difference, this is the most appropriate one. The true fact is that this movie makes the movies like Evil Dead and Friday the 13th look like childs play. I havent watched the rest of the nightmare series, but this one seemed to be a better one as I managed to get a peek into the other ones.
Considering the ridiculous horror movies released recently, may be you should not miss this one. It is great to watch in the DVD - a ride between dream and reality! May be you will not have the opportunity to watch a similiar movie soon enough. I even managed to like this one better than The Exorcist.
