A sweet book!

If you are looking for lawyer stuff, stay off

I am not revealing many details of the book because the details are what makes the book interesting

About the book

A Painted house is the story of Luke, all of 7, and his life in the rural Arkansas. Luke’s family owns a vast cotton field. The story takes place in the harvest season when luke’s granpa has to hire mexicans and the Hill people to help him harvest the crop.

In course of time, Luke strikes a friendship with Tally, a beautiful hill girl. Luke is initiated to adulthood when he sees Tally bathing naked. The turning point of the story comes when Luke sees something he ought not to have seen. It is then that the events take a turn and the story becomes exciting.

The book is named A Painted House because Luke’s house wasn’t painted and he takes trouble to paint it. Luke’s mother, a refined woman longs for a life of comfort in the city. It is not because she doesn’t like the village but because she seeks change form the monotony of village life.

The story is said to be based on Grisham’s own childhood. The book describes village life in detail which enchants you even if you are a young hippy of 21st century.

The Detractors

Many may say that the book was boring and uninteresting, but the reality is that they were looking for the usual lawyer stuff of Grisham. If one sets his/her mind to reading something different, this is the book the ought to read.

My Feelings After Reading The Book

Oddly , even though I had read the book 2 yrs. ago I remember everything said in the book. You can, thus gauge the extent to which I was moved by the book.

It is my earnest request to all who are looking for good modern literature to read this book. I recommend the book with high honours.
