Bombay Jayashree, has been one of the most talented singers in the domain of Carnatic Music. Now, there is a great possibility that my views on her may be biased, since I am indeed one of her great admirer’s. Nevertheless, I would surely like to pen my thoughts on the legend!
Expressing oneself through the voice cannot be easier for anyone but Jayashree. The ’’Bhava’’ aspect is felt so strongely when she delivers a song. What is more profound is that she is able to accomodate, not only the correct Raga - the perfect Tala - and most prior of them all - The Unshakable Bhava.
Bharat - Our motherland is symbolical for three things - Bha - Bhakthi with Bhava - Ra - Rasanai with Raga - Tha - Thyaga with Tala. Thus, if any of the legendaries are able to make explicit these three facets through music, then there is nothing more crowning to their career. To my limited humble knowledge, Jayashree has been one such artist.
Needless to say, this album of hers is yet another tribute to Indian Music.
