Yesterday I watched Akrosh at Liberty theatre, Surprisingly the theatre was full even the film was released without much Publicity. Film is said to be based on the honor killing,
But after watching the film you feel little bit disappointed, as the director has not done the proper homework.
In the earlier time Priyadarshan has made some hard-hitting films like Virasat, Saja-e kalapani etc, but he got popularity from his comedy films. In Akrosh Priyadarshan has returned back once again to Serious cinema.
The film starts from a Ramlila scene, which was followed by a car chase. The three medical students studying in Delhi kidnapped from a village called Janjhar, as media and student union protests the government sends two CBI offices, Siddanth (Akshey khanna)
And Pratap (Ajay Devgan) to investigate the case. When both they reached Janjhar they found that Investigation is not easy. There is a dirty nexus between the local police, local leaders and people of upper caste who at any cost by the use of violence suppress and terrorized the lower caste people. Nobody is willing to open his mouth against these muscle men. When finally they succeed to get a witness in the case, the case turns out to be political and then their senior officer asked them to close the case and make final report.
You have seen Ajay devgan in this kind of role many time, however Akshay khanna impressed as an honest CBI Officer. Both the female cast Bipasha Basu and Rima sen has not much to do but even in small role Bipasha has done Justice. Paresh Rawal in a role of corrupt Police officer is mind-blowing. He has portrayed the role with full ease and his role was written with the dark humor.
The film is quite long, but it keeps you engaging to screen from beginning to end. Priyadarshan should be thankful to his action director and background scorere. Whenever the film becomes slow the action sequences nicely shoot make the momentum. The music by Pritam is just average; actually there was not much possibility of songs in the movie. However the song Saudebaji is melodies and shoot well.
The film’s major drawback is the screenplay, story is good, but scenes have not written well. The film is about issue of honor killing but till the end that issue disappear and story moves as the predicable end of honest police officer, corrupt police officer and corrupt politicians and as every thing you think you have watched before also.
And please do not go for it if you are thinking it as another comedy by Priyadarshan, this is a hard hitting serious cinema
