This is my second review on Aamir Khan
An actor with a difference, a perfectionist, a chocolate boy, a star-actor etc etc. He can be described in innumerable words, he is Aamir Khan. I was floored by the very first movie I saw of Aamir Khan, that was Dil Hai ke Maanata nahin. Since then I had seen him umpteen times on the small screen in all of his movies except Raakh.
Some movies are A+ class (Lagaan, DCH, Sarfarosh, AAA, JJWS, AHAT, QSQT, DHKMN, HHRP, Rangeela, 1947-Earth, some are A class (Dil, Ghulam) some are B class (Mann, Ishq, Deewana mujhsa nahi, Raja Hindustani, Bazi) some are C class (Afsana pyarka, Daulat ki Jang, Love Love Love) a very few are even Z class (Mela, Tum mere ho). What one would readily accept is that in each movie, hit of flop, good or bad, he has always given his 100 percent.
His sincerity as an actor touches your soul. He is always the character he plays, be it a small town taxi driver of Raja Hindustani, a young street smart journalist Raghu Jetli of HHRP, a frolicky jack-of-all-trades Dil Nawaj turned into cold-blooded murderer in 1947 Earth, a Bombaiya tapori in Rangeela and Ghulam (of course with different shades), a rich Casanova of Mann, a doting father and a lonely husband of AHAT, a responsible mama to three bhanjas/brats of HHRP, a good-for-nothing but sensitive adolescent Sanjay Lal of JJWS, care-free Aakash of DCH, or heroic Bhuvan of Lagaan, he has lived all his roles to the core. And who can forget ACP Ajay Sing Rathod of Sarfarosh? If you are asked to name your fovourite, you are spoilt for the choice when it comes to Aamir with the variety of characters he played.
I should also mention his other small screen appearances like in a 2-hour program ?Jai Jawan? for our very own brave soldiers in Dras-Kargil sector or all coca cola as well as Titan Ads. He leaves his inedible mark in every campaign he is part of.
What we get to see of an actor is through the characters he plays i.e. his screen image, and a very few glimpses of his off-screen persona through media. We are fascinated by the combination of the facts and myths and try to know more and more of the actor we love. I like to perceive Aamir Khan as a very complex yet humble human being inspired by cinema as an art form trying to achieve only the best for him and his fraternity.
I eternally adore him for his mesmerizing yet unassuming good looks, cherubic smile, tremendous talent, exclusivity, sincerity, and devotion to his work (read the book ?The Spirit of Lagaan? and see the documentary ?Chale Chalo? on making of Lagaan to know him as a person off screen). For me, he is one of the ALL TIME GREATS of Hindi movies.
