Aamir ---- breaking news

There’s  a mail in my inbox that says "My husband is gone"......Saw Aamir on monday morning with Sonali. since her maternity leave started we’ve been doing fun stuff..... given that I work on my time which is usually when half of the world is fast asleep, I can afford the luxury of a movie at 11AM on a monday..... anyways so watched the movie.

Then yesterday Rohit, my only 3:47AM friend as of today, asked me what the film is about and this is what I had to say..... "It’s about a man, an ordinary man, and his choices". Sonali liked the way I put it across as any long winding explanation would really not do justice to this story. In layman terms it’s fabulous, well shot, amazingly, gruesomely and revoltingly stark but at the same time identifiable and plausible.

The music is good, specially the one track which really transports you into a zoned out mystic plane, Haa Reham, I’ve been playing it non stop for the past two days on my taplop (yes playing right now as well), it’s also the new ring tone. The music is very sufi/arabic and the lyrics are simple, true and very hard hitting.

Rajeev Khandelwal is good I would go as far as to say he’s the next Shahrukh Khan but then we all know how this world treats eccentric geniuses and Rajeev unfortunately is known for his eccentricity (apparantly thats what he is known for best..... quitting when at the top). At the risk of sounding gay I would say I totally endorse and identify with his way of life, the quit when at the top and dont worry about the future (coz anyways you never know what’s around that next turn), devil may care attitude.

Direction is good, editing is amazing and very very tight. Cinematography is perfect you see the underbelly of mumbai, the all permeating filth that you wrinkle up your nose to when passing by in air conned cars or local trains, you can actually smell it all off the screen and you feel like throwing up much like the protagonist(the one scene that can use a very little bit of editing.... but then maybe not).

As for the story all I can think of it is, yes, it’s plausible nad thats whats shocking. At the end of the day it all boils down to the individual and the choices he make, his upbringing, his confidence in the ability of man to change his circumstances and attain the destiny that’s meant for everyone in this world. Because unlike what all rhetoric heavy people of this world would have us believe there is no such thing as a bad destiny, that’s just an excuse we make for our own inability to make the most of the opportunities that life affords us. Disability I can understand but the rest is all lame excuses.

Anyways..... even  the end of the movie is remarkable in it’s vulgarity. It lays bare the impotency of our reportage today and how journalism has become the recourse of the underachievers today. Somewhere I had read this line about how the best women go into journalism and the best men into teaching....... today it’s more like "have mouth will blabber"..... Breaking News!!!!

When we were watching the movie there was this 19 something college kid sitting somewhere nearby moaning about how bored he was......surprisingly everytime he cribbed about it people around him, his friends, did the emotional equivalent of kicking him in the balls and telling him to shove it..... just goes to show how rivetting the movie is so what more can I say...... Go Watch!

Oh about the mail in my inbox, I deleted it but then seriously why should I be worried if someones husband is gone...... I mean if anything you shooed him away :D
