Aankhen stars the old is gold Amitabh Bachchan, the rapidly improving Akshay Kumar, the pretty Sushmita Sen, the looker and fine Arjun Rampal and the cracking Paresh Rawal.
The storyline (which is superb) is about a rather odd man played by Amitabh Bachchan who plans to get his revenge on a bank manager who he once worked for by this dangerous game. The plan...the great bank robbery of course!
For the robbery to take place, he needs three blind men; Amitabh researches into this deeply and passes this on to Sushmita who is blackmailed into this evil game.
Sushmita is given the task of teaching these three blind men (who do not really know what they are in for until they actual robbery happens) what to do. These three blind men are some of the best in the industry-Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal.
Each one of these characters have a special features in the movie. Akshay has the most important feature; he carries the Sixth Sense which helps them three (especially towards the end). Arjun Rampal is the sweet boy, and is the innocent one out of them. Arjun portrays this sincere role very well. And Paresh Rawal...he’s too much and is a lot of fun. Paresh Rawal is just great, he makes you laugh one minute and cry the next. The movie would be a miss without Paresh-and that it for sure.
Sushmita, I personally think, has improved quite a bit. She has some emotional scenes in this flick, most of them are of her crying; and she did this very naturally. I mean if these crying scenes were given to actresses like Madhuri Dixit or Ashwaria Rai then they would be screaming at the top of their voices and screwing their eyes (the typical heroine cry) but Sushmita has a very calm and cool personality. I picked this up as I was watching the movie, her performance was good.
And I think that Amitabh has come back into the industry Now, after watching movies like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham I thought that perhaps Amitabh had lost his golden magic. But after watching flicks like Aks and now Aankhen, I know for sure that the “Babumushaye” is back with his gold magic.
The storyline is superb! The acting is brilliant! The movie overall is Fab! This certainly is fantastic for a debut director- Vipul Amrutlal Shah. This certainly is a “Check-Mate” for him. This is the first luminous movie I have seen from Bollywood in 2002. I will defiantly remember this movie, and put it in my favourite list along with other beautiful movies like Asoka, Chandani, Dil Chahta Hai, Fiza, Moksha, Zubeidda and many more.
The songs of this flick are not bad, but they are not brilliant either. Luckily this does not let the movie down. My personal favourites are: “Gustakhiyan” which is catchy and is pictured well. Secondly, “Kucch Kasme” which unfortunately is not featured in the actual movie, but is great to listen to; another favourite is “Phatela Jeb” which is cool and funny. “Chalka Chalka” is not really my sort of song, but the pub and the song overall is directed well.
But I think the best track was the “Amitabh Soliloqui” this is the track where Amitabh talks about the dark side of truth. The amazing thing was that what ever he said is completely true.
The ending is reasonably different, not the typical Bollywood ending…you know what I mean. Plus there were no predictable scenes; such as I thought that they may show that Akshay or Arjun could already see or turned out that they got their eyesight back. But I was happy that this did not happen, completely the opposite! The twists were really good. Basically I enjoyed this game, and was very impressed with all the players; this is including the director, actors…everyone.
If you ever have the spare time, I suggest you go to the Aankhen website: https://Aankhenadangerousgame.com. The website has brilliant graphics and animation. Plus you can play the game, though I have never passed the first stage (That’s not the point) it is incredibly excellent.
So do you dare to play this game? Go on…take part in this dangerous game...after all the game has just begun...
