AKS
is a decent attempt of HR and his trusted team and does not make you
feel that HR is making a fun of himself while he chose to become an
actor….his performance 80% of the time is natural and rest of the 20%
of the time can be easily overlooked as it is bound to happen with a
non actor….he is playing himself in the film….A singing sensation from
India comes to Germany for a concert and gets arrested for the murder
of a journalist who was doing a sting operation on him….his love life
faces turbulent times as the girl RIAA(Hansikka) who is in love with
him has to face the opposition of her father(Sachin Khedekar) who
thinks that Glamour world people have a double sided life and fears
that her daughter too can be a victim of this……Ruby(Mallika Sherawat)
is HR’s financer for the shows and a lawyer by profession….she happens
to be a fan of HR and is awestruck by his personality and falls in love
with him….Khurana is the partner of Ruby and one of the very popular
and wealthy organizer of the country who wants HR to be a part of his
ambitious world tour concert but HR declines his offer as he has
already given a commitment to Taneja who happens to be another
organizer……and all these incidents form the climax of the movie……
Music
of AKS is highlight of the film and very melodious too….may be the
preplanned hammering of the songs on various tv networks worked for
HR….every song grows on you slowly and steadily……the lyrics too are
well written and catchy….My favs are Tanhaiyaan and Jhooth nahi
bolna….not that other numbers are not worth listening they too are
very catchy….a nice album worth a buy….
Cinematography
is the soul of the film….the technical brilliance which Manoj Soni
possesses….shows on the screen….each and every angle and frame looks
well thought of and planned….the lighting is good and most important
is that the photography creates a curiosity in you to go and visit the
beautiful and scenic locales of Germany….when the film opens you feel
that you are watching one of the Hollywood flicks but its only when you
see Raj Babbar you realize that its AKS the hindi movie….such is the
impact of the cinematography of the film……
Screenplay
of AKS is still tolerable but I feel the Story should have been more
looked into where the thriller aspect was connected….otherwise it has
almost every thing in it…the Indian Values….Romance….etc etc….i
freaked on the scene where Himesh Reshammiya is sitting on the floor
with a support of the sofa behind him and is playing guitar and he
sings Gayatri Mantra in his own tune….Amazing is the word which will
come out of your mouth….I guarantee….
Direction
is good….at places the flow goes down but again picks up….Prashant
Chaddha(Director) has worked hard on HR’s acting abilities….physique
and looks….The director has been successful in portraying HR as a
singing sensation with Huge sets and his immense fan following which
attends his concert….the security which is provided to him is matching
that of Michael Jackson’s….the fleet of cars….choppers….the security
guards around HR….its all so real and you seriously believe that HR is
a super singing sensation….which anyway he is right now….
HR
looks convincing in the role of a person he actually is….acting comes
natural to him as I mentioned above most of the times but some portions
of HR are not that convincing because he is a non actor….his silence
which is often taken as an attitude is well explained and the best part
is that half the reasons he gives in the film are mainly connected to
his real life which HR has to go face in his day today real life……like
the scene where Himesh tells his childhood buddy “teri ye flirting ke
aadat kisi din mera naak katwa degi dekhna” and his friend says “teri
naak hi toh hai jo main nahi katwa sakta….kyunki agar maine teri naak
kaat di toh tu gaayega kaise and both laugh”….as a lover too HR looks
convincing and plays it with perfection….overall a good try and not at
all a let down….
Hansikka
is the girl to watch out for….she is a performer boss and at such a
young age if she is performing like this then she is here to stay….no
where in the film you feel that you are watching a debutante….notice
her in the scene where she is talking to HR on the phone and her father
comes and stands next to her….then notice her in the scene where she
comes to meet HR when he is on a run and hiding from police….she is
just too good….
HR’s
friend has acted well and very naturally….rest of the cast is good and
lends an able support….Raj Babbar playing the murdered journo’s father
is wasted in the film which could have been played by any one I feel….
The
climax could have been worked out well I suppose….the reasoning and
the happening looked too hasty and it seemed like the writer was in a
hurry to end the film….the action sequences are well choreographed and
equally well shot….
Don’t
expect too much from the film but if u r a HR fan then it’s a must
watch for you….and the others who love performances watch it for
Hansikka and those who love cinematic brilliance watch it for the
cinematography of Manoj Soni….
I
close this review knowing that HR will no more sing for other
productions and has decided to sing only and only for the films where
in he will act….which comes as a bad news from a composer / Singer who
has a huge fan following and who has given hits like Aashique Banaya
Aapne….O Meri Zohrajabeen….Jhalak Dikhlaaja….and others but one
respite for the fans is that he will score music like before and who
could forget his hits like Tere Naam….Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya….etc
etc….
HR
offers everything for everyone when it comes to his talent….i mean the
critics would be at gr8 ease with this selective singing decision of
his….and the fans will still hear him but will have to wait for his
film where he is gonna act….
Guys
I am not at all saying that AKS is a film par excellence or a very
different film but what I am trying to say is AKS is a film made with a
total passion and it shows.leave aside the plot of the film which I
will come to later in the review….i mean to say that AKS is anyday
1000% better than a Dhoond Barabar Dhoondh(JBJ) and a Naqaab type of
movies which boast of Superstars being a part of them or Superb and
brilliant known directors filming them blah blah blah….
The
critics and the haters club of HR would have gone under wraps by now
because a hit is a hit and no one can deny this fact…whether it was
HR’s magic which worked…whether it was the exquisite and stylish
picturisation that worked or say whatever….but the fact is that it
worked in HR’s favor….
All the best HR….
