Wow, I was so very surprised by how truly awful this movie is. There is not a single original idea in this film. It is neither funny nor touching, there is no chemistry between Akshay and Priyanka and everyone is trying to hard without succeeding on any level.
I wont bore you with the plot, except to say that it involves your sexy damsel, Priyanka, seeking out Akshay Khanna as a male escort. She needs him to escort her to her sisters wedding in England. It is supposed to be strictly a business arrangement.
The movies fails on every level, and its not like I was expecting something super to begin with. The acting is awful, the characters have no depth . The story is just a mishmash, focusing on a woman trying to make her ex jealous by hiring a male escort and then flying him to London to be her guest at her sisters wedding. Thats it. Not to mention the fact that some serious scenes were written into it, which failed miserably.
How bad could it be, you ask? After all, its just a romantic comedy, right? Lets start with the story. They must have edited out all the scenes that depict a growing affection between Akshay Khanna and Priyanka. Even though we know this is inevitable in a movie like this, I didnt see it or feel it.
Why a guy like Akshay would be attracted to a woman like Priyanka because she is is neither witty nor endearing. Add to this the complete lack of chemistry between them and you have a romance that doesnt add up and doesnt make you cheer. Their timing, body language, and emotional connection is just plain bad or non-existent .
While the viewer is actually able to guess what the next sequence will be like, it is to the credit of director Dharmesh Darshan that the film does engage you in patches. Though a few sequences do keep your faith in his abilities alive, the film is simply no patch on the makers immensely entertaining products like Dhadkan and Raja HIndustani.
Yet another shortcoming is that the screenplay is disjointed and at places, that of convenience. While the first half is hardly engaging thanks to an overdose of songs – in fact, three songs follow one after the other in very quick succession – the film does show signs of improvement in the post-interval portions. But the second half is highly erratic – the pace picks up and drops at amazing regularity!
Director Dharmeshi is handicapped by a poor story and a weak screenplay that he chose to believe in. The only factor that you carry home is the songs which are simply wonderful.
Priyanka looks tired at some places and fresh in some. Theres inconsistency in her looks.Dino gets no scope. Amisha is quite nice. She looks alluring and makes her presence felt.Akshay plays to the gallery. . Dino and Sunil have nothing worthwhile to do.
AKK is a formulaic film but given the mindset of todays audiences, a subject like this will hardly find takers. Below average.
