Let me begin by saying that I dont want to belittle others who have written about this album but fact remains that all other reviews (except a few) speak more about Himesh and not the album. I have tried to write a few lines about all.
About the Music Director / Singer
I feel this guy is really talented. Only 3 of his albums / or movies with his music have come out and made great waves and we are noticing him NOW but he has been around for quite a while beginning Tere Nam / Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya etc. and the music was commendable. He never sang in those movies hence was NEVER a singer earlier. To understand his music we need to separate his music from the singer that he is.
About him being a Singer
He has his own tone alright, and true it gets monotonous at times but surprisingly I never found any songs of his (except few notations which may sound repetitive) comparable to what he has done before. That way when AR Rehman sings or gives music we may say he is repetitive. I dont think he is repetitive. Listen to Himeshs music in Tom / Disk / Harry - Awesome! Tanha Jiya is a good piece of work. I know this is about Aap Ka Suroor but here I am writing more about His work you see.
About Aap Ka Suroor!
Well one of the few good Pop albums around. Some songs are good while some are jarred. The top songs are nice and hummable. I would say it is a good buy. I dont buy albums hoping that ALL songs will be out of the world. I listen to music without being critical unless the songs really dont make sense - by way of bad lyrics or bad music or bad sound - here all are nice. Good lyrics by Sameer, Good Music by Himesh and sung well by him too after all it is his own album. By far (if trade pundits are to be believed) this has been one of the largest selling POP album of our time. Friends I feel give him a chance. Anyways I feel we are far too critical about any piece of work. You know we are stuck by the Ok-But-Then syndrome ... I wonder how can it be both :-)
Relax!!
