Step Out & Just Dance

The movie seems to be inspired by Step Out series 3, which was superb in technical execution and 3 D action.   Remo D’Souza (director of ABCD anybody can dance ) has refused to copy the theme of flash mob dancing in the Hollywood original movie. Rest of the theme too is tailor made to Indian audience. The Bandra reclamation locale with its bridge as background is superbly chosen.

Apart from this aspect the movie moves in slow motion and picks up pace in unfolding the plot. The title of the movie reveals that anybody can dance provided he or she puts in their heart and soul into the activity.   It is all about dance theme, and competition for ABCD. Remo is blessed with abundant talent from Dance India Dance show on Sony TV.

All the excellent dancers have been picked and introduced into the film. Some of the notable dancers are Dharmesh, Salman, Prince, Kishore, Paul, Mohini, etc. Dance competition Close Up Dil Se brings the best of talent from across the country in a face off.

The story revovles around a teacher Vishnu ( Prabhu Deva ) who is shown the door by the famous Jehangir Khan ( Kay Kay Menon ) of JDC (Jehangir Dance Academy ) who wants to contemporise his troupe. Vishnu is left with no option but to teach his mentor a lesson of his life, that dance is all about discipline and dedication not about manipulation and package.

How he goes about his task despite numerous hurdles is theme of the ABCD. Ganesh Acharya ( Gopi ) gives asylum to Vishnu to hunt for his talent among the Bandra  boys who are basically street dancers. How he converts their raw talent into honed dance moves and than how their concept gets stolen and the climax reveals that if one has talent to be natural and honest they can pull off victory under the adverse circumstances. Vishnu is good in his dancing skills but his dialogue delivery lacks the punch of an established actor.

The movie does not stress much on romance or extra dramatization unlike the Hollywood movie. I was disappointed by 3 D effect of the movie. Step out technical finesse is far superior. This movie would definitely appeal to all youngsters and college students. Go for it guys if you are dance enthusiast.
