Experience of ABN Freedom card

My experience with the services of ABN Amro bank has been very disappointing. My troubles started the day I decided to open my salary account in their Chennai branch. First thing of botheration is that the bank itself is not accessible even from the popular places in the city.

They have just one branch for entire Chennai, banking on the philosophy of minimizing the customer visits to the bank. But unfortunately this ambitious business model is not backed up by required customer service. Even when you call the customer service they divert your call to four to five different numbers before you get somebody actually talking to you.

Unknown of all this I had applied or I should say fooled into applying for the freedom credit card for this bank. On fine day one of their executive called me up on the number that I had supplied to them in my personal details while opening the salary account. Being my private number I had trusted her to be bank employee and she revealed to me that I have to accept the freedom card as it is always ?pre approved? with the salary account holders.

All I can do is to choose for a higher bracket card. So reluctantly I agreed to have that card, immediately after which she started asking me my other details that were supposed to be with the phone number in personal details. The very next day some body from the bank came and took my signatures on the credit card form, which I was later told was the actual application form for the card. So she actually fooled me into applying for the card in the name of signing the formalities.

Once I realized this I asked them cancel further proceeding on the matter only to be told that the application had already been submitted to the head office so could not be cancelled. They suggested me to return the card without accepting it, promising me that they will not charge for joining fee.

Even after all this now; today after one and a half months when I enquired about the status of the card, they say that they never actually received any application from me. They had taken my personal details twice on phone, once claming it to be a call from head office for the final verification of the information supplied. But now they deny having received any application.

My point of concerns is how did that executive get hold of my supposedly private personal details, therefore establishing a trust that she is in fact a bank employee. Then lying to me and getting me sign certain documents that are now untraceable. Who were the persons that called me for verification of my personal details if my application never reached the head office? What about those bank officials who told me that the application cannot be cancelled because it was already dispatched to the head office?

All in all I realized that these bank official have always been lying to me in one matter or another just to earn some bucks from me, even if that meant to fool the customer who are trusting them with their money. I have decided not to have any further relationships with this bank and close my salary account from here as well.
