ABN Amro Credit Card

Just not up to date!

Well, let me start with how I got this card! One of my friends, a new ABN Amro card holder, unable to bear with frequent calls requesting for referrals, gave my number to the agent. The agent called me and convinced me to go for a card(why did I have to fall for that trap?).There started my relationship with ABN Amro!

The card came to me with my name spelt wrongly(despite giving my driving licence and my ICICI card). I sent back the card after calling their customer care and received another card in a month.again, name spelt wrong. But I thought I will not go through the pain again and a rose called by any other name smells as sweet(well one N missing in Jagannath would really not kill me).

I had to change my residence in a year after getting my card and every other bank was okay with a phone request and they updated their records. ABN Amro wanted a written request to be sent.Did I have a choice(now again I have changed my address, but didnt bother. I check my statement online and make payment online. to hell with those statements)!

I got a call once from some agent(i have learnt to ignore ABN Amro calls coz they always used to come from Delhi - prefix 011 and I had no relatives in Delhi. so was damn sure it was these guys and would most times not pick the call. coz I realized they would call me to "remind" about my payment due in 1 week. when in reality I would have dropped check already. this was before I used to pay online through NEFT) and he told me that my balance of 28k(on that date) could be convered into EMIs and I would pay less interest, blah, blah. I took the bait again. it was convenient for a couple of months. but when I did get some amount in hand and wanted to settle the whole amount and called them to convert the EMI mode back to normal mode, they again wanted me to send a signed letter!(well, I didnt mention about their call center. the lesser said the better. the time it takes to talk to an operator. you could as well go to work, finish your 8 hours and come back)!

In one period of time, there were these calls about titanium card and that they offer it for free and you get so many things free. When I probed, they told I have to pay 2.5k first month. Then how the hell is it free? NO answers!

Fortunately I have now moved to another city and have almost cleared my balance with them(save 10k which I did a purchase recently because the swipe panel on my ICICI card did not work when I went to the merchant). I don’t intend updating those guys with my address or number(no way, I have no intentions of cheating, definitely). Any day ICICI card is better. their call center guys are more helpful and have more information and can definitely speak better English(okay, I accept Hindi is our national language, but is it a fault to have the call center guy speak English. my God, they can’t understand if I speak two sentences fast)!

And, if you are an ABN card holder, please do not give any references.save your friends!
