Get billed, though you don't use the card!!!

ABN Amro. one the the leading names in Banking industry!

Sadly, one of the most unprofessional and unethical bank to bank with!

I have been using Citibank credit card for the past 5 years and a year and a half back, I received a call from ABN Amro to apply for its Credit Card. I applied only looking at the Bank’s name and its record of being known as a very nice brand around the world.

I applied and was granted the most basic credit card with a decent Credit Limit with in a month. I had swiped for some 3 transactions in the first month totaling to around Rs. 3500. But I received a shock in form of the statement for the first month! The total amount due was Rs. 7800!

Initially, I wondered if I was dreaming. But no. it was the beginning. Beginning of a nightmare! I called up the phone banking which was a pathetic link of electronic web, which took me a good 20 min. before I could reach out to a human(or should I say in-human?). The so called human took the complaint and provided me with a complaint number and also, tried to console me saying that it was a mistake from the marketing end and promised that the excess of Rs. 4300 would be canceled, by the time I would receive my next bill.

I paid Rs. 3500 by the due date and never used the card during my second month. I had made myself clear not to use the card till I receive the next statement with Rs.0 as total amount due. But. when I received my second bill, the total balance had gone up from Rs. 4300(the excess amount) to Rs. 5700 which included charges for not making the entire payment!

Crazy folks! I had to call up the phone banking again, but this time, the in-human who spoke to me insisted that I had to pay it and that my complaint was dis-honored! I had to apply a half day leave to my office, rush to the branch at Residency road, use foul language to get some one’help’ me. Seems like, the card business was "not the thing, what the branch would look into"!

However, I was asked to provide a written complaint at the branch by a so called "good Samaritan" who could "understand what I was going through".

Luckily, the complaint was honored after some 3 months! But, I know the pain I underwent every time I received a bigger bill for the next 2 months. Once, I received a bill with the total balance due with Rs. 0, I requested the card to be canceled.

My sincere request to every one reading this review - Don’t bank with ABN Amro!
