"Above Average"-- I don't think so

Comparing "Above Average" to "Five Point Someone"  is a crime in itself. The later is a masterpiece in itself and this one.. well.. i’d say it barely qualifies to be called a novel, more like random entries from an IITians personal diary.

About the story.. well there is none. The book talks about the journey of a boy from his school to his 4 years of IIT. The incidents mentioned are though funny at times but not LOL funny. Then there is the use of typical IIT lingo and as I was reading it only one thought constantly hit my mind.

Every college is special in its own way, each one has its own type of ’masti’ , own pranks and its own special thing. Why is then that when someone writes about IIT it is suddenly selling like hot cakes? My guess is that the Indian Education system has put the IITs in such high regard that we fail to look beyond it. Anything related to IIT and we assume it is the best.

Apart from that, the writing style of the author has a hint of amateurishness in it. You can see him trying hard to sound philosophical. The description of  funny incidents is, to put it simply, "not funny". I guess the author has tried a little too hard. I think had he kept it simple it would have been enjoyable.  All in all, I would not recommend this book, unless you are stuck on a long train journey with nothing better to do.
