The book starts with the introduction of 3 characters...Timothy, Daniel, Deborah.
Timothy – a Christian orphan in spite of parents, living with his uncle and aunt and is being treated miserably.
Deborah - A beautiful strong minded girl of Rev Moses Luria. A Jew by religion and the first daughter by her fathers second wife. She is trained to be a proper Jewish girl and fit to be a Rabbis wife. But she has her own plans of studying.
Daniel - The only son of Rev Moses Luria expected to carry on the Luria tradition of being a Rabbie. Half the childhood is spent in trying to save himself from the bullies who took great pleasure in beating him. He is expected to know everything and be perfect since he is the ONLY SON of Rev Moses Luria.
Life takes a major twist when the destiny and the religious faith begin to play the game in the life of these three characters.
The story of life unfolds when Timothy breaks the window of Rev Moses Luria. Taken to apologize to the Reverend by his uncle, he is asked to repay for the broken window.
In order to raise money for the same, Timothy is asked to come and perform the tasks of cleaning and switching off lights and regular tasks which cannot be done by the household members during the Sabbath period from Friday to Sunday.
Timothy is forced to take up this job by his uncle glaringly and warned that next time he should never break the window of an important Jew person. This was something to be not told to his aunt as it was the common opinion that Christians and Jews don’t move around together. The work begins and Timothy soon realizes that even the Jews are also people who serve GOD in a different way. Being from a different religious community, he had had a different misconception.
Timothy once stands by for Daniel when is being attacked by the bullies. This is one of the first incidents in Timothys life when he begins to feel that he is wanted by somebody. Timothy soon enrolls in the Church duties and begins to find a lot of peace and happiness in performing the duties for the Lord.
Once he happens to meet Deborah, while performing the duties at the Moses household. He is stunned by her beauty. They feel drawn towards each other and are caught by the Reverend himself.
Talking to a Christian was one of the utmost sins in the Honorable Reverends mindset - Deborah is punished by being sent to Jerusalem to another Rabbie household. Instead of being allowed to study as promised by her father, Deborah is forced to live a life of drudgery and hardship and is being treated like an extended washing machine. After months of torture, Deborah just decided to escape and enters into a Kibbutz - a place where lot of homeless Jews stay as a family. Deborah enjoys her stint there and learns to work and enjoy life.
During this time...Timothy has decided to become a priest and comes by to Rome to accept the calling. On a sight tour, to Jerusalem, he happens to go in search of Deborah whose address had been provided by Daniel.
The faith which separated all the three protagonists has a different story for each of them.
Daniel takes on his fathers wrath when he refuses to become a Rabbie. Deborah and Timothys love story becoming the cross of faiths.
The book flips back and forth giving the story of each of the characters in their situation and finally how all the characters triumph in their dreams and desires makes this an interesting read.
