Fantastic all round

Affirmation is Savage Gardens second album following their debut album ’’Savage Garden’’. It features 12 tracks in total, all very well written and unique. It was released November 1999. The band consist of Darren Hayes/lead and background vocals, co- writer of songs, Daniel Jones/keyboards, programming and additional guitars, co-writer of songs, Anna-Maria La Spina/lead backing vocals, Lee Novak/live bass, Karl Lewis/live drums and Ben Carey/live guitars.

The tracks

  1. Affirmation: A powerful song with very cleaver lyrics about life in general the highs and lows. This is one of my favourite’s and is excellent to listen to in the car and great to motivate you. (gets me doing the housework)

  2. Hold me: A slow and moving song based around the breakdown of relationships that gets to the point of no return. This is an ok song but not for the broken hearted. I found this song to be too slow and depressing more for background music.

  3. I knew I loved you: Yet another song revolving around love but in this case knowing that someone is out there for you and you and it is yet to happen. I like this song very much it kind of reminds me of my husband and I, he was there all along I just didn’t read the signs. The song is ideal for relaxation, a special meal or that all important 1st date.

  4. The Best Thing: A fast and racy song about obsessive, strong and powerful relationships. This is another favourite of mine and is again one of those songs that just get you in the mood to do something, very motivating.

  5. Crash and Burn: This is a kind of pick me up record that is about bad times getting better, a light at the end of the tunnel if you like. This is ideal for most kinds of occasions driving, background music, relaxation etc, another favourite of mine.

  6. Chained to you: Another obsessive relationship song as you can tell by the title. This song has a kind of rock feel to it making it ideal for driving up the motorway.

  7. The Animal Song: This song was written for the film ’’The Other Sister’’ and is about escape of life as it is, all the crazing sounds and noise from every day life. Getting back to innocence and nature before inventions and society. This has got to be one of the best songs I have ever heard and in my opinion is the best on the whole album, it has a fantastic beat to it and incredible https://lyrics.

  8. The Lover after Me: This song is about a past relationship that you have broke from but see reminders around and it haunts you. This is a very emotional song very intense and very meaningful. I like this song but it is still depressing, I say this is best listened to spending a cosy evening in with your partner and a mug of cocoa.

  9. Two Bed and a Coffee Machine: This song is about a mother leaving an abusive relationship and taking her children away from the suffering of an abusive partner. A very slow song with strong lyrics, well written and a very good approach to a subject that is often avoided. I like this song for the open and honest approach of domestic abuse. This is a song to be listened to if you need to relax and put your life into a perspective.

  10. You can Still be Free: This song is about close friends/family that have died and remembering their lives, not forgetting who they were and what they were to you. The vocals on this song are just too fantastic for words and this is a very beautiful song suitable for all occasions.

  11. Gunning down Romance: This is a kind of angry song about love not being what you thought it would be, emotions and feelings, disappointment all the things that can drive you to insanity and self pity. Best suited for music to have on in the background while you get on and do stuff.

  12. I don’t Know you Anymore: Focused on how relationships and how people can change, going home to your partner to find they have packed your belongings and don’t want you in their life anymore.

To sum up this has got to be one of the most fantastic albums of all time. The vocals are just incredible and the lyrics are pure genius and well formed. The collection of songs are their best yet, this is an album that will compliment any CD collection.
