Kolkata got its own specialty Crepe restaurant. Afraa which had already made a name in the area of fine dining concept and has been dishing out Italian food at its Afraa Deli has a new restaurant in its chain. I would call this place a cafe than a restaurant. The place is situated in the new CII Suresh Neotia Center for Leadership near the parking lot of City Center. This is a new cafe that has come up in the last one week.
As the name suggest they serve crepes. Crepe is a type of very thin pancake (usually made from wheat flour). The word is of French origin, deriving from the Latin crispa, meaning "curled." ( From wikipedia). In this cafe you get sweet crepes as well as veg and non veg crepes. Veg and non veg crepes is nothing but veg and non veg stuffing in the pancakes. I have not tasted crepe before but found the non veg crepes very tasty. It definitely worth the try. Costing around Rs 100-120 the crepes are not very heavy on the pockets. I had tried Chicken Tikka Crepe which had as name suggest chicken tikka as stuffing and another crepe with chicken, cheese and mushroom stuffing. The sauce and the dips are really good.
The ambiance is done very tastefully. The entire interior has a wooden finish and is a perfect place to go on a date or hang out with friends. The cafe has a small collection of books which you can read while you wait for your food to be served.
This place has recently opened. They plan to have open air seating in winters and a Oxford Book store nearby. So if you are planning to spend a lazy afternoon basking in the sun, reading a book and enjoying some good food and coffee do visit this place in winters. Till then hang out at this place with your friends. Its pocket friendlier than Afraa lounge or restaurant and the food will not disappoint you.
