Plot- The movie dwells in the remote future where humans had to leave earth and settle in some other planet as Earth has become uninhabitable. But the new planet has other challenges, S’krell, alien creatures who intended to conquer Nova Prime(New Planet of Humans).They have a lethal weapon called Ursas , large predatory creatures that hunt by "sensing" fear.General Cypher Raige (Will Smith)who is the commander of Ranger Corps, peacekeeping body of the planet has mastered the art of controlling and lead to the victory of the Ranger corps.
Cypher and his son Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) are not in good terms with each other as Kitai blames himself for the death of his sister.In order to bring tranquality between son and father Faia, Kitai’s mother and Cypher’s wife insists Cypher to take Kitai along with him for his last mission.
Reluctantly Cypher agrees. During the flight father and son bond but the spaceship is caught in asteroid rain and had to make a crash landing on planet Earth which is a deadly place to be. The spaceship split into two pieces 100kms apart . It is now upto to Kitai to save himself and his father who is badly injured in the crash by fetching beacon which could send signal to their mother planet.
Cypher load Kitai with all necessary equipment and some capsules of oxygen so he can breathe since human lungs can no longer tolerate Earth’s low oxygen levels. Cypher warns him to avoid the fauna and flora which has evolved since humans left and be careful with the planet’s violent thermal shifts. Kitai sets off to find the tail section, with Cypher guiding him through the communicator.How Kitai finishes the journey and saves both of them forms body of rest of the movie which according to me was not very interesting.
Cast:
Will Smith who I remember from Pursuit to happyness was no where to be found in this, it is definitely not his best role but whatever limited scope his character had he tried to deliver it well.
Jaden Smith-well theres absolutely no doubt that the son has inherited his father’s genes when it comes to acting.He may turn out to be a good actor but in this movie I personally didnt like him.The fire, the hunger, the acceptance that was required for the character of Kitai , Jaden failed to deliver it. He needs to polish his acting skills.
The movie is directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the same man who directed The SIXTH SENSE.hasnt really delivered a good movie after that. His direction was poor so was the screenplay. Technically the movie is weak and the production quality is also poor. Special effects were so mundane that it never attracted me, infact was boring and special effects should have been the hero of the movie.
I personally woudnt recommend this movie and if the ticket is worth 210 rs you can easily give this movie a miss... I rate it 2/5
