A&DC, thats what we will call this tabloid was founded by Mr. Behram Contractor, A Padma Shri aka Busybee .. after he quit the Ansaris (Mid-day group)
He ended up creating one of india’s most enduring life style companion
I call it a life style companion, as unlike other newspaper which tries to enforce its view point on you. A&DC is one of the only newspapers to understand its audience’s point of view and tries to capture it in a sartorial fashion.
I guess it has rubbed in from Busybee’s personality .. down to earth yet could rub shoulders with the gliterati and the jet set.
A&DC always leads by action, which other for profit organisation contributes to charity so prominently, If you look closely at the mast head of the paper, you can clearly see that it states the cost of the flimsy is Rs. 1.50 out of which 1 paise is towards charity, the quantum is measly but we should remember.. A&DC unlike other publications does not encourage Advertisements to a great extent.
Check out Mid day by comparison, 2 pages of news and 10 pages of meaningless and inane ads hawking eveyrthing from low EMI cars to tummy trimmers galore .
If you want paisa vasool type of reading go for Mid day by the time you are through, most of the times your destination is here.. but if you need quality there is no alternative to this tabloid.
I like jagjit uppals astrology .. as well as the cartoons and of course till the time he was there, the busy bee column .. where he commented from the chest thumping shiv sena to the gujju sheth who lived on the 10 th floor, or his talking dog bolshoi .. man do I miss that
A&DC is now edited by Busy bee’s protege Mark .. he is trying to maintain the same attitude and zest that makes A&DC such a important part of mumbai’s culture
