Based on my previous experience of using Agarwal Packers in 2006 for moving to Gurgaon to Mumbai, I wanted to use them again during my last relocation from Gurgaon to Bangalore. Since 2006, Agarwal packers have split in two different entities and it is really difficult to track as to who is the original one! I reached out to one and got calls from the other too! Each of these entities was rubbishing the other’s experience and the result was I was totally confused. Anyway, after choosing one if the two, I negotiated with them and it was finally greed at INR 80, 000 for dedicated 20 ft container. I gave them a cheque worth INR80, 000 at the time of loading. The issues which I faced are listed below:
They promised that the luggage will be delivered in 7 days but it finally arrived at my newly rented place after 14 days from loading. They did not release my luggage till the cheque was cleared!!! Can you believe this??!! I was not told about this constraint but after repeatedly asking them I realized that they were waiting for the cheque to clear.
Instead of a 20ft dedicated container, my luggage came in a shared 32 ft container an top of that there was a leakage in the container and my items were all wet from the bottom. They had promised a dedicated container and had charged me for that.
there was also some damage to the luggage which was not repaid.
The day the luggage came in Bangalore, they called me up and asked me to be at the apartment to receive the luggage. I left my office took my family and waited for more than 4 hours for the truck to come. After it did not turn till 7 in the evening I called up the local office which told me that the truck will come only in the morning as it will not be able to enter the city during the evening or night due to some restrictions!!! I had to spend the night with my family (including two kids and in laws) by sleeping on the floor!
In hindsight, I feel that I was too pre-occupied with the new job, new city etc to go and fight with these cheats. I should have filed a case in consumer courts and asked for a claim. But I think I can make more valuable contribution from my side by letting you guys know about what happened to me which will help you making a right decision.
