Hi There,
Its long back when I watched this one, at that point of time I liked the movie. It was an era when I was somewhat obsessed with the dialogue delivery of Nana Patekar and the movie plot has given him enough to do this.
Three movies namely: Yaarana by David Dhawan, Daraar by Abbas-Mastan and Agnisakshi by Partho Ghosh; lifted the story of the hollywood hit Sleeping With The Enemy. Only Agnisakshi survived at box office, not only survived but did good business, though frankly speaking it was noway near the original one.
The Plot was wisely developed after copying by the script writer to give enough platform to nana to deliver his dialogues. At that point of time nana was selling like anything and producer and director kept this thing in mind for the movie. The music was ok sorts and infact slowed down the pace which would had been better otherwise.
Editing was good and movie except at a few places was able to keep you glued.
Direction was good and specially the scenes where nana explodes were appropriately conceived and shot by the director. Manisha was a good choice for the role but her part was a totally deglamourised one as shown except a few dance numbers. Jackie was there because someone was required to fill that place and didnt get much to do. Ravi behl and divaya dutta, why they were there I dont understand. Overall, director was able to come up successfully with the indianised version of the story.
Talking about cast as I already discussed nana patekar was the keyman. Hes been given good dialogues and aaeela, the way he delivers them is worth watching. His face speaks and it is evident many a times in the movie. Manisha is beautiful as always, and her acting was so so good. She portrayed her character wonderfully. Her scenes with nana are the picks of the movie. Jackie was OK and its not his fault, he didnt get much to do. Others are not worth mentioning.
Technically speaking, the sound and camera work were ok as per the standards at that time. Talking in todays terms you are not going to appreciate it much.
Dialogue writer did a wonderful job for the movie. Since nanas dialogues were the USP of the movie they had to be good and appropriate. Good dialogues, delivered wonderfully well did the trick for the producer.
Music was okay sorts from nadeem shravan and is simply forgettable after the movie.
All in all its a good treat for nana fans, good dialogues and good masala. Manisha fans would love her acting though she looked different and in half of the movie has portrayed a very deglamourised character. Nothing much to mention apart from this.
My advice is first watch this and then watch Sleeping With The Enemy, youll enjoy ........
