Agra is a wonderful city. It has many faces, having many facets of its glory. This royal Moghul city has many monuments that represents India to the world. Its monuments are the silent witnesses of Indias glorious past and rich traditions.
If you are coming from Calcutta by train, you will pass through many stations, all belonging to Agra - Rajah Ki Mandi, Agra Cantonment and Agra Fort. At all these Stations you will get Agras famous Dalmoot, Peda and Petha. Petha is prepared out of cucumber and sugar. It is very sweet to taste and keeps itself for a week or so. Dalmoot, as a snack, goes very well with Tea.
Agra Fort speaks volumes about the Moghul Empire. From one particular point, you can get an excellent view of Taj Mahal at the other side of the river Yamuna. The famous film Moghule Azam was shot here. There is a Light and Sound Show held here in the evenings by the Indian Tourism Development Corporation.
Fatehpur Sikri is not very far from Agra, and here another facet of Indias history is projected to the world.
Agra has the famous Dayalbag sect of Hindus. The Dayalbag people are constructing a parallel Taj to have similar architecture, but, can it be a monument of love as the Taj Mahal is ?
Bichpuri, near Agra, is the seat of an autonomous educational institution, which is a Deemed University. Agra also has a very good shoe market. Bata makes bulk purchase of shoes from here and sells them after putting appropriate labels in them in its outlets.
Climate wise, Agra is very hot in summer and very cold in winter. It is a dusty city.
I have visited Agra before, but would like to visit it again with my wife on a moonlit night, when Agra is transferred to a Dream Land.
