Folks, For those of you looking for a soft martial art, aikido could be one of the choices. I am writing this so that folks in search of a soft martial art can be benefitted. Aikido is a japanese art form that emphasises on throwing the opponent off balance to neutralise attacks. There is absolutely no strength involved in the techniques. Women can find this very ideal, though in the bangalore dojo the majority are men! Aikido has founded by Morihei Ueshiba, a man who was later declared as a "gem of japan".
The exceptional nature of this man is reflected in the art form too. Please refer to the net and you can find all information regarding this art. In case you are still wondering what this is about, this is the martial art made famous in movies by Steven Seagal. I am sorry that I have to write things from Bangalore perspective, because thats where I live. Aikido is taught in very few places in india. I think the other places are delhi and calcutta. You will be very lucky to find more than 4 dojos in the whole of India. I am lucky to have one in bangalore. Please refer to the site https://aikidoindia.org/ for more details. This is in no way a campaign for more folks to join. Only very genuine folks with long term commitments may follow up.
Also, this is not an art for the hot blooded - the bangalore dojo is based on soft style. You can find all the details from the website.
I was quite puzzled to find that there was absolutely no reviews on any martial art/ dojo in India on mouthshut. This probably reflects the indian disdain towards any martial stuff. But in todays world, I think it is a necessity to learn these. Many practitioners come to aikido solely for the health benefits associated with it. So if fighting is the only thing in your mind, stay away! Absolutely no aggressive behavior is tolerated in the dojo. Most of the students are software folks who need some means to destress. I am a beginner in aikido. If you contact Thimmaiah, our sensei, you can find all the details you require. Again, I repeat, this is not a ad for the dojo. Those interested in karate can practice under KV Subramaniam (of course, if he accepts you as student). NO disrespect is intended towards other martial arts.
