Having traveled on the following sectors
Bangkok – Phuket – Bangkok (Twice)
Bangkok – Macau – Bangkok
Bangkok – Depnasar (Bali) – Bangkok
So that’s a total of 8 flights on Air Asia in the last 2 years.
Air Asia is one of the cheapest airlines in terms of fares. The return fare from Bangkok – Bali- Bangkok (a 4 hr 15 minute) costed me Rs 6090/- and (Bom-BKK-Bom a journey of 4 hrs 15 min) costed me Rs 15000/-.
The return flight from Bkk – Phuket – Bkk costed me Rs 2600 a 1 hr 30 min flight, the same distance as Bom - Blr which would cost Rs 5000 Min for a return flight on a Low cost carrier.
So in terms of cost Air Asia is at least 50% cheaper than any low cost carrier in India. Air Asia flies to 65 destinations, following are the countries where Air Asia Flies (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hongkong, China, Burma, Macau, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei, Australia, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Philippines, UAE, UK)
Types of airlines used are mainly Airbus A320 / 321/319. All the airlines are new. Punctuality: Out of my 8 flights, 1 flight has been delayed (Macau – Bangkok) by 2 hrs. 3 Flights on time and 3 flights before time, so over all it’s a reliable airline, on most of my flight the load factor was almost 100%.
Food and Drinks: No food or drinks are served on board as this is a low cost flight, but one can buy food and drinks at affordable prices, I got chicken lasauina for Rs 110, a sandwich for Rs 60 which is much cheaper than what is available on our LCC.
Luggage allowance : Only 15 kgs checked in luggage is allowed, 7.5 kgs in handbag, they are quite strict on this aspect, however extra luggage allowance can be purchased.
Paperless tickets and paper boarding passes, no need to have a ticket printout all you need is the PNR number and you can verbally tell them the PNR number and get the boarding pass.
Flights + Hotels can be booked on their site at affordable prices.
In-flight entertainment consist of an in-flight magazine
Cabin crew is presentable, polite and efficient
Check in crew have had a mixture of rude personnel and kind personnel.
Seat Allocation: Air Asia has an option on their website where in you can reserve your seat in advance at a nominal cost of THB 50 and if you want to have the front seat and seats with maximum leg room you need to pay THB 250. If you do not reserve seats in advance you may not get seats together, they do this purposely so that on your return leg you reserve a seat by paying a nominal amount. They have good leather seats but reclining is less when compared to other airlines
Turn around time is quick when compared to other airlines, they also have an in-flight duty free, you can pay in Thai Baht, Malaysian Ringets, US Dollar and by credit cards
Most of their tickets are Non refundable and date changes are costly.
Overall to sum up the flight are on time, good aircrafts, good service from the crew, and real value for money. Would definitely recommend Air Asia
