Even after we pre-ordered meals online and paid for our two 20 kg check in suitcases, the air Asia ticket was at least 25% cheaper than other tickets.
Air Asia in Kuala Lumpur is interesting, because there is an entire terminal built for it. Kualalumpur is a huge center for Air Asia, and there are so many flights from the low cost (LCCT) terminal, mostly of air Asia. This is by itself a little mind boggling, as you expect only national airlines to have such a big fleet.
If you want to reach LCCT, you can take the Airport transit train from the city which takes around 1 hour ( this includes a 20 minute ride on a shuttle bus). It costs only 12.5 MYR per person which makes it really cheap. This is not the same as the Airport express which takes you to the main terminal and is also much more expensive.There was a big queue for the check-in. I would advise that you pre-book the luggage, because you won’t be able to think straight with all that crowd. Good that we didn’t have any issues with Air Asia, but I heard that the customer service is terrible. As, we didn’t, our experience was very good.
In the LCCT terminal, I must suggest that you visit one of the shop which sells multiple dried fruits, chips, and interesting mixture sort of items which are also pretty cheap. You will also probably get these in the city, but we didn’t have time to go around the city so much.
In the LCCT, you have to walk (yes, you heard me right), from the terminal to the aircraft! There are walking directions, and everyone walks through a sheltered path. I didn’t find this particularly bothersome. In fact, I find those buses which take you for 200 meters and then drop you quite weird. What I must tell you about Air Asia is that their vegetarian meals are excellent. They have some excellent mock chicken main course. The other main course whose name I don’t remember was also very good.
In contrast, the mock chicken on tiger airways is terrible.
