I had booked myself on AI 0126 online for the flight dated 8th May 2012 from Delhi to Hyderabad. The PNR was HJRFF and the e-ticket no. was 0982103535973.
The flight was cancelled on account of the Air India pilot’s strike. I was assured the amount for the ticket – Rs. 6, 638 will be refunded to my credit card. The ticket was also stamped cancelled by Air India staff at T3.
I had also called the toll free no 18001801407 at 3.45 PM on 8th May to confirm the cancellation of the ticket. The executive confirmed to me that my ticket has been cancelled and a refund will be made shortly. I asked for a cancellation no. but was not given one.
The funds have not been credited back to my credit card though it has been months.
I always used to book myself on AI on account of the wide network, decent prices, in-flight meals and the courteous staff. Occasionally a flight would get cancelled but I have never had any issues in getting the refund. I have no faith left in AI. I travel at least once a week and have stopped buying AI tickets as I am not sure (i) whether it will take off (ii) if the flight does not take off I will be harassed no end in getting a refund.
I know the airline industry and AI in particular are facing a cash crunch but not refunding money for cancelled flights is only eroding the good will of die hard AI fans also.
