This was my first trip through AIR INDIA flight from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi(UAE), on Jan 9th 08...I flew from Mumbai to Abudhabi..i had packed my bags and made sure that I packed my jewleries in the larger of my two bags.Coz I was travelling with my 23 month old daughter, i didn’t want to take chance of carrying my jewleries in my handbag. The next day, at the airport, when my bag arrived the lock was missing.when I opened my bag I discovered that all my jewelery were missing...Immediatly I rush to Air india office in Abudhabi..which was closed on friday...the next day I went with written complaint and submitted it to the Manager....when I lodged a complaint the manager said they cannot take any action, i told airline is obviously responsible for the theft of my jewelry, since my luggage was airlines care.
After debating he said he cannot assure to take even any action except he can only froward email to all the authorities of airline as well as Airport. After continous follow up yesterday which is exact after 4-5 weeks of incident they sent an email saying they have investigated but there is no possibility of theft.As they have close monitoring people around the airport.This does mean that we the passengers just lieing to them..i have lost my baby’s brand new & valuable jewellry, i have lost my diamond, gold jewelery worth Rs.80, 000 to 90, 000/-.
If the luggage can be opened by the luggage handler in my absence after the luggage is checked in, chances are things can be put into my luggage; this is a serious security threat.
