There are two types of movies made in Bollywood. One is made for the money and the other type is made to send out a message. The money making movie is a safe bet as they mostly indulge in stuffs audience like and hence are a money garnering. However the one with the intent to send a message does not always land on a right side with the audience which often leads to a loss. Just after the miserable failure of Jai Ho starring Salman, the genre has been avoided until the release of Airlift.
Airlift, released on Jan 22, 2016, is a movie starring Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur in lead roles. The movie released along side Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 and has slammed the latter miserably flaring the box office with its collections and positive reviews from both audience and critics.
I watched Airlift with my family and was more than just pleased. I can bet that there was not a single people in the theatre that didn’t cry. Such was the depth of the movie. The movie involved several goose-bumps moments, scenes that gives you chills and make you think, and splendid acting from a talented cast.
Story – Airlift deals with the rescue mission of the Indians stuck in Kuwait during a war. It shows how a rich businessman turned concerned citizen carries out the whole of the rescue of 1, 50, 000 Indians single handedly. The story is fascinating and thrilling at the same time.
Cast Performances – When it comes to patriotism, hats off to our Khiladi Kumar. Akshay Kumar has yet again proved that be it Holiday or Baby or Airlift, he is the master of this genre and can nail it every time he wants. His acting as a businessman turned concerned civilian is awesome and praiseworthy. Nimrat as Akshay’s wife is good not great. Another special mention should be of Purab Kohli. The guy who earlier appeared in movies like Rock On and Awarapan has proved this time that he is more to than a side actor. He is just fabulous in his character.
Music – Music of Airlift is soothing and a treat to listen. Songs like Soch Na Sake by Arijit Singh has already topped charts and is turning out to be the first blockbuster song of 2016. Dil Cheez song is rocking and good. Mera Nachan is another romantic track which is also good to listen. Music directors Ankit Tiwari and Amaal Mallik have done a good job in the music department.
Scenes To Watch Out For – The movie has several splendid scenes that erect the goose-bumps on your skin. Scenes like the devastation of a once happy and prosperous place is depicted beautifully. There is a scene where Akshay’s driver is killed, it is graphic and intense. Moreover the ending scene where the Indians are waiting for the confirmation from India is breath-taking.
Final Verdict –There is only one thing to say – Must Watch. Very few movies are made in Bollywood that have such great depth and intensity. Airlift is one of them. It is a must watch in my opinion.
