UPDATE : AIRTEL has managed to resolve the complaints and there are no issues as of now. Apart from the odd niggle here or there the Service is good and I am still having their connection. Any issues are being looked into even if it is a weekend or holiday and that is something appreciated from customer perspective since its impossible to be disconnected in todays digital age. SO OVERALL RECOMMEND AIRTEL
Keeping up my promise to the Airtel Service Representative to speak up my mind on social media forums, I am going ahead with the review of Airtel.
To start with a brief background, I am a so called premium customer of Airtel Broadband who has been paying nearly 2300 Rs per month for their so called 8 MBPS Unlimited service. The terms of the condition is a 50 GB FUP with 8 MBPS bandwidth and a 512 KBPS post that limit.
Recently I have been noticing that Airtel is throttling my BitTorrent service by forcing the entire network speed to 0.2 MBPS or lower the moment BitTorrent service is on. The moment I close the BitTorrent software, the speed goes back to 8MBPS. I have checked all other options like restarting routers, checking connections and restarting computers, DHCP, DCP services etc. After paying through my nose, the minimum decency I expect from Airtel is for them to keep up their promise of 8 MBPS speed till the Fair Use Limit.
If Airtel thinks they can cheat customers by throttling speeds to their whims and fancies, they are mistaken. My complaint number with Airtel is is 60445836 and LB100900194. How can Airtel determine the legality of the Torrent all by themselves. Even if they want to service other customers by preserving bandwidth, they have no right to take away the dedicated 8 MBPS line promised to me as a customer.It is my prerogative to use that full 8 MBPS the way I deem fit. The Pathetic and unilateral action of Airtel is nothing short of the retrogade moral policing goons who are on the papers.Looks like Airtel needs to be reminded of the Comcast incident in USA where the service provider had to pay millions of Dollars in fines after following similar policies.
As a Customer of Airtel for 8 years plus, I am very hurt at this kind of treatment. Needless to say, I am planning to take this through the TRAI forums to the extent possible. And from the readers of this site, need a little help from you.please let me know feedback about alternate ISP in Chennai(Tambaram) area who is not known for such crooked malpractices. I plan to make a switch away from Airtel.
