Airtel 3G- Costly and customer care is horrible

I bought a Airtel 3G sim in Nov 2011. They had some good plans like Rs 1250 for 10GB. I have to say the speeds I got were awesome.


It touched 5Mbps after 11pm and used to be in the range of 1.5-4 Mbps rest of the time.


Again if I moved to another part of the house, speeds fell drastically. This is biggest disadvantage of 3G/EVDO/HSIA internet dongles.


Pros:




  1. Excellent speed when you are in 3G coverage area




Cons:




  1. High price of 3G data plans. Now with a recharge of Rs1200/- you get only 3GB




  2. Customer care is pathetic. I think airtel has hired under qualified staff to cut down prices. Its like talking to a wall. One cc executive simply refused to answer my queries because I did not remember what was the amount of last recharge I did! There were no other questions to authenticate!






Some are not able to answer the question and after talking for a long time, they say you ended in wrong department.




  1. Postpaid customers should keep track of their usage. If they exceed the limit the billing happens at Rs 10, 000 per GB! This is also true for prepaid but then the prepaid customers can check balance easily.




  2. Airtel website is not updated with correct tariff. Customers get confused and end up cheated.




  3. Migrating from one plan to other is a pain. Recharge keep failing and customer care is not helpful.






Conclusion:


Stay away from this service as of now.
