It has hurt revenues of all DTH broadcasters but as per my personal experience Airtel employees are behaving like piranhas mopping up revenue any which way they can. In a recent experience a biggy like Airtel had offered in writing minimal rates for my secondary connection implying streaming of same channels as my primary connection and had sought money from me. On receipt of subscription amount of 6 months amounting to Rs 5270 from me, they reneged on their commitment and gave me a bundled package which had no similarity to the a la carte variety of the primary TV.
I became aware of this fraud within 8/10 days of the start date and wrote to Airtel for immediate discontinuation and refund of residual secondary connection amount on prorata basis viz 6 months minus number of days viewed.
Airtel just would not agree to the refund and insisted that they would add the amount to my primary account. Apparently it does not matter to them that the secondary connection amount was obtained by them fraudulently.
They tried to explain economics that ultimately I would be the loser if I discontinued. I said I was doing so on principle, a word they obviously do not encounter in their line of business.
Mind you all this happened at the Nodal officer level who has more responsibility than Customer Care but whose office was responsible for misleading me either knowingly or due to her limited knowledge of English correspondence.
