Last weekend I had to fly to Beijing for urgent official work. This was the first time I was going to china so I did not know how I would call from there. Then I saw the Airtel Global Calling Card booth at Bangalore Airport and I picked up one 500/- card from there.
It had listed all the access numbers in all countries. For China, it was 108-712. I checked into hotel on 26th Dec., 2007 and then I called this access number. To my utter shock I came to know that this card is not active!!
Some operator keeps on picking up the phone and say the standard line "Hello, this is operator I am sorry but you card is not active, do you have any other cards?". When I say I purchased this just last week they say please talk to customer care. But there is no customer care number on card, no email address as well.
I asked my friend to check with the Airtel guys in India, they told him that check in the foreign country only.
Now I am still in China and not able to use that 500/- card !!! Once I go back home I would have to snail mail them about the issue. To which I am sure I would get no response. I am thinking of putting a case in Consumer court. As since I was not able to use their card I had to buy new card which should also be paid by Airtel.
Please DO NOT buy any Airtel card at Bangalore Airport atleast.Update : MS rocks. My card is active now but IT IS huge rip off. From China to india it cost me more then 25 INR / minute!!!!
I would rather recommend another website jajah.com ! Please read my next review on that.
