I was flicking through channels and came across “the best of 60 minutes, ” its some American show, I’d only heard of it before. I was slightly surprised to see Aishwarya Rai on Kiwi(New Zealand) television.
It’s always nice to see something Indian on foreign channels. I’d also seen Ash on Oprah earlier.
The show was an utter disappointment. All she did was smile and giggle through it all. It seems she does not posses the ability to go speak a well structured sentence without adding a giggle in between.
Her English had been praised on both the shows. To me her English seemed quite disjointed, not fluid. Priety Zinta, John Abraham can speak better English to name a few people.
As for her popularity in the west, I think it’s a passing fad. It’s just a matter of timing, the Indian film industry had to be recognised sooner or later. The exposure was growing over the years, with Indian channels being beamed abroad to NRI’s and pirated Indian movies being available in asia.
The only reason Aishwarya is popular in the west is that she has rare, exotic looks. With so many blondes in Hollywood, its hard to tell them apart. Then there’s ash, black hair, large eyes, pointy nose…what more could they ask for.
Hollywood is just like that… I think we need a better representative of India cinema.
Tell me your views on ash…
