Soon Bollywood’s style statements will take the British shops by storm in a range of Barbie dolls which have been inspired by it.
The Barbie dolls have been imported from India by Sair Mir, the managing director of Mir India.The dolls resemble Aishwarya Rai in looks and costumes. As Mir confirmed, "Aishwarya and all her outfits were a major inspiration for modelling these dolls, especially from her film ’Devdas’ where she looked sensational".
As an aside it be noted that last year the glorious Ms Rai featured in a list of the world’s 50 most beautiful women. This year, she has, however, been replaced by Parminder Nagra, of Bend it like Beckham fame.However, there is not an iota of truth to the rumours circulating that it has incited Mr.Mir to remodel his entire collection.
According to him, "We have used Bollywood, and India’s rich cultural heritage, to put a lot of intricate detail into these dolls’ outfits, using silks, embroidery and jewellery".
The Indian Barbie collection features looks and costumes from all corners of the Indian sub-continent, from the Punjab to Gujarat to Rajasthan. There is also an Indian Diva collection, dressed in the latest ethnic kurtas.
Going down in the hostorical value of Barbie dolls, it was born in 1959 and since that day , its popularity has only grown by leaps and bounds across nations.Barbie occupies place of pride in 150 countries and her wardrobe has reflected sensibilites of various cultures and nations.However, India had remained immune to the invasion.
Mr.Mir feels this wil help Asian countries embrace Barbie better and identify with it.It will also inculcate cultural values and reverence for their heritage among young Asian girls, something which the Barbie with blonde hair and western appearance could never do.It will make a perfect present for all Asian women cutting across age factor.
However the pointer is who will Indian barbie’s husband be called.....Ken just doesnt seem proper and right!!
