Abbas-Micheal Crichton-Mustan masala

I must admit I am now going to rent the DVD of Disclosure to see how well Aitraaz could have been made! But, I have read the novel by the same name written by Michael Crichton. It is gripping!

The story revolves around how a woman will go to any extent to achieve what she wants! The main disadvantage of the story is that it clashes with the traditional Indian values at so many points, that the audience is uncomfortably shifting in the seats.

It is not like whatever is happening on-screen is unreal; it is just that as a society we are not yet open to accepting such things. Maybe this is what could pull the film down at the box-office.

Overall, it?s a decent movie. I wouldn’t call it good. It’s a good time-pass. Akshay Kumar is, as usual, natural and energetic. Kareena Kapoor carries herself with grace and dignity. She also shows amazing restraint in her expressions.

I always thought that she overacted in her movies. But here she does well. Probably, maturing into a fine actor. After Dev, here is one more feather to this pretty lady’s cap. Afterall, acting runs in her blood! Priyanka Chopra, as the other woman, is just about ok. This role presented immense challenge to the actress who has taken it up with the right spirit. Actually it is a kind of role in which a bad actress would have immediately stood out! But not Priyanka, She has done well!

Annu Kapoor as the friendly lawyer is superb! Though his character is not given a fair ending, Annu stands up and shows that he can not only sing well but act well too! Paresh Rawal in a guest appearance is entertaining! Amrish Puri, with a funny accent and a funnier get-up is wasted.

The cinematography is good. The choreography is the comedy track of the movie. I was laughing my head off while watching the songs. There were less of dance steps and more of a slow-action replay of boxing bouts! That choreographer, whoever it is, should be given the best comedian award rightaway!

Music is passable. There is rhythm in the music and that?s what the film needs. It suits the film’s ambience, but falls short of earning itself a Good music tag. One particular song is reminiscent of ’’Kaisa jadoo dala re..’’.

Abbas-Mustan have off late been taking up issues that instantly hold the attention of today’s Youth. Wife swapping, renting-a-womb, and now Sexual harassment! Kudos to these guys for picking up such daredevil themes. But I wish they write their own stories. They write better actually. Instead of Indianising an American novel, I guess they would do better to ask a storywriter to compose a story on a particular theme. Which one is next? Any guesses? Blind dating is mine.. Anybody taking any guesses?

If you have time to spare, haven’t watched ’’Disclosure’’ the movie, or read the book by the same name and have money then you may venture into ’’Aitraaz’’. Otherwise, give it a pass. You wouldn’t miss much!
