Neither an Ajab Prem nor a Ghazab kahani...

When a movie comes from Rajkumar Santoshi we are bound to have a ton of expectations and why not, if we see his past record, he has never compromised with the cinema and has given a masterpiece in almost every genre....have a look - Action: Ghayal, Ghatak,  Social: Damini, Patriotic: Legend of Bhagat Singh and Comedy: Andaz apna apna...now this is one film I have seen infinite times and willing to watch each time I get a chance...for me it’s number 1 in comedies.

I always thought, why Santoshi did not try his hands on comedy again if he has such a strong grip on it but this film Ajab prem ki gazab kahani answers me. some movies just happenes. anyways lets come to the point. though the film fails on the expecttions but Santoshi managed to save himself as we cant say its a bad movie.

there is no ghazab kahani in the movie as name suggests but a simple and common story where a happy-go-lucky kind of guy falls in love with a sweet girl but cannot tell her about his emotions and one fine day he comes to know about the boyfriend of that girl....still he helps the couple geting married....and so on...taking a simple Story is not a problem, there are only few stories in the world but what matters is the presentation. Santoshi tried well but could not make this presentation a memorable one.

One side he had his own masterpiece Andaz Apna Apna in mind and was trying to make this one on same notes and on other hand he was bitten by insect of emotions...result----- after every couple of comic scene you have an emotional teary scene which hampers the flow of the story. you start smiling and just then he turns your lips upside down. not everything is bad...few sequences are really hilarious that keeps us optimistic about Mr Santoshi e. g. the sequence where Ranbir got a job on a mithai shop where he goes wearing tie and all...this 5 minute seen is simply great. you can point out few scenes like this and that’s it. rest are one liners which sometimes work but sometimes not at all. so many things they lifted from Andaz Apna Apna, like kidnap plan, fight sequence on villain’s adda etc.

lets come to the acting now...I used to dislike Ranbir Kapoor before but after watching this I have changed my opinion about him. he has the potential and will go a long way if success does not go up on his mind. ofcourse he is not perfect but he tried very well. his friends are ok. Now comes sizzling sensation of todays....Katrina Kaif....She is beautiful and she is beautiful...

I dont have anything else to say about her...she doesnt have anything else. I dont know how much she pays to the reviewers that they write pages about her performences. anybody who is having slight knowledge of acting can say she is useless...she cannot even speak Hindi properly then how can we expect the variations and emotions in her words? nowadays if we talk about actresses there is a major crisis in film industry. we are managing with mediocre actresses...after Madhuri Deexit and manisha koirala...we dont have a complete actress who is beautiful as well as extremely talented...this is the era of models who are just showpiece. people only watch there body, they cannot relate with them emotionally.

As far as other actors go for this movie, Darshan Jariwala is one actor who is on top of the lot, he acts effortlessly. Zakir hussain didnt impress at all. Govind Namdev is a good actor but he should practice comedy at home as he has oveacted in this one by making faces. Upen Patel....aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.........what to say about this guy...somebody show him the mirror...doesnt he has a family business are so?? why is he bothering us and what have we done to him...what was the majboori of Santoshi to take this dumb guy to play the Cameo...this is a country of 100 cr people, he must have find an option 1000 times better than this anywhere.

set is beautiful...they havent shoot this movie at a real location but crated a village that looks good. cinamatography is good. dialogues are crisp at times and dull sometimes...writers could have done better.

Santoshi was double minded while making this. he should have stick to Andaz Apna Apna kind of comedy so that we would have got another masterpiece to watch for years but he stuffed so many emotions in this flick which make it dull. emotional things could also be done the same way as he did in AAA...

anyways what has happened is happened now we have the final product in hand and all we can say is it’s good buddy but you could have done better...we can watch it once but that’s it...whereas we are still watching Andaz Apna Apna whenever we get a chance....main to kahta hoon try for the sequel of Andaz Apna Apna...it will rock but be carefull while writing haan...do it without trying to make people laugh because it irritates them...let the laugh burst out naturally....

Thanks!
