The ajanta and ellora caves in aurangabad district from a part of the proud cultural heritage of india. The creation of the ajanta caves and the world famous wall painting known as frescoes the date back to the period from 200 b.c to800 a.d.
The ajanta caves were lost from view for nearly ten centuries they were discovered accidentally in 1819 in the thick undergrowth. When excavated, 29 caves were found in good condition. The caves were hewn by just hammer and chisek from a single rock. The wall-paintings show men and women wearing different garments. The people in the picture are seen in a variety of gesture and poses. In every cave there is an inner temple in which you will find a huge stone sculpture of lord buddha.
