Our trip to Ajmer had been very much brief as our main intention was to visit Khwaja Moinuddin Chistis dargah. The trip was a sudden plan and we booked the tickets for saturday morning making sure that its not the time for Urs (death anniversary of khwaja ji). The chair car tickets are affordable (570/-) and breakfast is included in the fare. We took Shatabdi on saturday morning at 6.05 am and reached ajmer by 2.00 pm. Once outside the station building you can see an auto stand inside the station compund.
With a little bargain we got an auto in 150 bucks which was supposed to take us to dargah and back to station by the scheduled time of Shatabdis return. The auto ride was costly but we did not want to take chance and waste time as we had to be back by 3 pm at the station. It hardly took 10-15 min to reach the dargah. The auto left us at the beginning of the street beyond which no vehicle was allowed. There are shops aligned on both the sides of the street selling flowers, chadars sweets, clothes etc...We bought chadars and flowers from a shop and left our shoes at their shop.
Chadars range from 51/- to higher prices. Once we entered the dargah following a security, we followed the crowd and just in front of his mazhar there was this queue. As indian queue goes, there was lot of pushing and suffocation. But all this pain is worth. You enter his shrine room and you tend to forget all your worries. We gave the chadars to the people who were standing near his mazhar and they gave us prasad in return. They asked for money and we gave some out of devotion. Once the crowd pushed you out of the shrine room u get near the jannat ka darwaza or thats what I thought they called it .
U can try ur threads in the walls there and ask ur wish. We tied our threads and came out of the compound. We saw the degh which Akbar and Jahangir had installed in his dargah and where food is cooked during urs time. U can see ppl donating food items, money etc. Our whole darshan took us 40 min in total and we were back on time to catch the train. We had skipped our lunch but yes the auto driver who took us suggested an eatery. We ate our lunch cum dinner on train. And by 10.45 we were in New Delhi railway station. The trip was short and took 1 full day and the details might help ppl who are interested just to visit the dargah.
P.S - Beware of ppl asking money to donate to their trusts. We had just donated inside dargah on his mazhar and degh ...... No need of donating otherwise.
