Love actually !!!

Seldom do I like a love story and when it’s a completely unknown cast, I never watch it. ‘Pyaar ka Punchnama’ was an accident, one that I cherish. Today we can safely consider that a classic, but I doubted whether stories like that will ever hit the screens again, but this Luv Ranjan movie almost matches up to his previous one, well almost!!!

The story is fresh and entertaining and has those real life moments that we talk about at our table during dinner. The story is about a two love birds a Punjabi Guy – Akaash and Vaani, a Girl from Dehradun. Its love at first sight at the grounds of St. Stephens in Delhi and what happens in the next few years forms the crux of the story.  It’s a 21st century love story, something every youngster can learn from and can be a good lesson for the upper age groups as well, because this story will teach us that falling in love is the easiest part in a relationship, the real challenge lies ahead.

The not-so-famous cast of this movie has pulled of quite a gem with this one. Kartik’s portrayal of a Punjabi munda with a devil may care attitude, who is almost spoilt easily makes us connect to our teenage rebellion and Nushrat’s act of an embodiment of social customs and a push over like attitude really makes you sit up and take notice of the potential of this brilliant actress, she looks stunning as well and unlike most other actresses who require a bag full of makeup. This role is the complete opposite of what she played in Pyaar ka Punchnama which proves her versatility. Love with less of skin and more of emotions at its best on the celluloid. It would be unfair to say that the movie is held on the lead pair’s shoulders as all other characters have been equally brilliant giving us a life like love story.

The story as I have said earlier is brilliant and is perfectly crafted on to the screen by director Luv Ranjan. I will be surely looking forward to all his movies now as he has added me to his ever growing list of fans. The script is well written but stretches a little bit in some parts of the second part with some very emotional but not-so-required scenes. Had they reduced it and made a two hour movie instead of a two and a half hour one, I would have given it not less than 5 stars. Still, the script retains its charm till the very end mainly due to some intelligent direction and subtle artistry in bringing life alive on the screen. Some of the dialogues are cheesy, some punchy and some really romantic, some that you’ll keep repeating for some time. The songs of the movie are quite melodious but not enough to be chart busters. The picturization of the songs has been as good as the rest of the movie and the locations are picturesque.

On the whole, the movie is refreshing in this age when love is won or lost on facebook and leaves you in awe in 150 mins. Definitely a must watch!!!
