I had purchased Akai audio CD system AC 220 as couple of years back under an exchange scheme with old 2 in 1 systems. Since my previous Videocon stereo system was quite old and started giving problems, I had decided to switch over to a contemporary audio system.
I had various options like Sony, Kenwood, Philips, Sansui etc. offering audio CD systems and deciding on Akai was little difficult because many features were common in all the competing brands. However, parameters helping me to decide were my budget, good international image and an exchange scheme giving some value for my obsolete stereo system.
On a budget restricted to Rs. 11, 000/- Akai seemed a reasonable buy.
The performance has been good, to some extent facilitated by regular maintenance on my part! The only negative point (if at all) is the pre-set graphic equalizers. I still feel Akai could feature user-controlled i.e. variable graphic equalizers.
