I had high hopes about this movie due to the appealing promos shown on t.v. Both, my husband and I, thought that the big B seems to have worn a very new mantle in this movie and hey! lets check it out.
However, I must say that I was very disappointed. The first half of the movie is quite good and keeps you glued. Both, Amitabh (as the security in charge for the P.M.) and Manoj Bajpai (as the serial killer, who loves killing) have done a good job. Raveena looks really ravishing........However, Nandita Das did not really look comfortable in the movie - maybe she was miscast or something..
The upside is:
Good acting by Amitabh, Raveena and Manoj Bajpai
Good cinematography
I liked the song ’’Yeh raat’’.
The downside, which weighs more than the upside is:
- They have really messed up with the ending ( I will not reveal it, it might be a little unfair ), but we are supposed to believe in some sort of eclipse which is magical etc. and has the power to make souls weak or such hocus-pocus.
The way they handled the end was very pathetic and put me off the entire film!
The quote from the Gita ’’Na koi marta hai...’’ It was repeated often and was very irritating afterwards.
It was commendable thta the film makers tried to use symbolism (about Ravan and Ram etc. ) and tried to talk about social evils and the evil within us etc., but it was not done effectively. This resulted in the audience saying ’’What the hell...???’’
Believe me, at the end of the movie, you feel - ’’Why in the world did I see this?? What was the director trying to say??’’ You feel quite dis-oriented. You feel as if you have somehow missed the point.
- Also, the violence is a little too much. Also, the song sequences could have been toned down to show less flesh :)
All in all, I would not recommend this one!
