Aksar starring Emraan Hashmi, Udita Goswami, Dino Morea and Tara Sharma.
Director: Anant Mahadevan
My Rating: /
Upon reading Aksar was a success in India I decided to go ahead and watch it. The only thing I knew about the story was that it dealt with infidelity (which seems to be the core of every other Bollywood movie lately.)
The movie is basically about ex-model Sheena Roy played by Udita Goswami who cant seem to keep her temper in control. Her husband Rajveer Singh played by Dino Morea wants to divorce her but cant do so because Sheena wants to remain married. To drive Sheena to divorce him he hires cassanova photographer Ricky Sharma played by Emraan Hashmi, to make him fall in love with her. Sheena is a hot tempered woman with a mind of her own, but Ricky feels every woman wants to be swept off her feet by a man and eventually Sheena is going to give in and fall for him too. After some twist and turns one of the characters ends up dead and just when you thought the movie is over, youre in for a new surprise!
Overall I think the script was great. It was a well written story that went terribly wrong when played out. Emraan did what he does best (kissing actresses and lip synching Himesh Reshammiyas songs). I do realize Udita was required act really angry in most of her scenes but she had absolutely no control over the emotion and almost led us to believe that she belonged in a mental institution. Dino Moreas performance can be described in one word :bland. Out of all the characters in the movie I liked his best, but I feel he didnt do justice to it. Tara Sharma did what any starlet could have done easily (though I must say her voice was bearable this time).
Watching the movie I couldnt help but think how a scene would have looked if it
was done little differently. Also, the so called comic relief the butler jokes provided were a big let down. But where Ill give the movie credit is in its capacity to keep us glued to the screen. You cant help but wonder what will happen next. Just when one goal is achieved there is a turn of events that keeps the viewers interest alive.
The movies shabby sets do take away from the movie, but I decided ignore that (along with the abuse of the word mansion). I wish Udita was dressed better, she looks nothing like a millionaire NRIs wife.
I gave the movie a because given a better director (I dont understand why Mahadevan failed to deliver this time, he did a pretty good job with Dil Vil Pyar Vyar and Dil Mange More..perhaps he should stick to romantic comedies..) and a bigger budget, Aksar would definitely be Quality Hindi Cinema!
