Akshay on the verge of his new release- Waqt ; definitely has arrived on the scene with Big B as one of our TALENTED actors from where he started of as a waiter in Bangkok years back.
I do agree that Bollywood has superstars like Big B, ShahRukh, Aamir, Ajay Devgan, Anil Kapoor, Sunny Deol, Hrithik (who are sensitive actors and to some extent (wholesome entertainers)Salman, Sanju and Govinda as well as yet to be established - Manoj Bajpai, Irrfan BUT our AKSHAY KUMAR (originally RAJIV BHATIA- A BLACK BELT in Martial Arts) has a place of his own in the industry; whether it’s a purely positive or negative one or with GREY SHADES. HE has emerged as one of our finest actors slowly and steadily.
I remember him the first time in Saugandh with I guess Shanthi Priya and I hated him. But Khiladi changed my view to a li’l extent. Then, came a spate of his ’’Khiladi’’ versions; like Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, International Khiladi, Main Khiladi Tu Anadi, Sabse Bada Khiladi, and so on.
He may not have been great with these movies but these were his teaching schools. Although he was regarded as a good dancer; his dance resembled his karate/judo moves. These movies mainly established him as an ACTION HERO.
But today he has improved on his dialogue delivery, his appearance, his comedy timing, and his choice of movies. Today his sex appeal is truly worth noticing. He does not look like a lustful hero (like he used to) but has a voice and physique that expresses and true sensuality............LOOKS WITH BRAINS and BRAWN........
Although ANDAAZ with our beauty queens did not have a great storyline; it was Akshay’s performance that kept the movie going.
AITRAAZ was a standing ovation for him as his transformation from a loverboy to a responsible husband was depicted well.
KHAKEE was great in terms of his flirty and dishonest character to a honest, loyal character which made me cry when he died.
MUJHse SHAADI KAROGI was a movie that I did not wanna watch but it was AKKI’’S character as WICKED SUNNY that made me laugh to bits. His presence made every small and big actor/actress in the movie look insignificant.
BEWAFAA although was boring and repetitive, still made an interesting watch for his and Kareena’s chemistry and his parting statement.
EK RISHTAA -one of his first movies with the BIG B was also well acted but unfortunately this movie did not click yet his timing with the BIG B was well accepted and that’s why we’ll get that COMBO of powerhouse performance in WAQT. The dance number with both of them looks very very SUPER COOL.
I might have missed mentioning many of his movies; but these were the movies that have been imprinted on my memory.
As for his chemistry with his heroines; yup Raveena and Shilpa made statements with him; nearly tied the knot; but anyways Twinkle was just perfect for him; being his co-actor and hubby. Rekha and Pooja Batra were OK.
Today; Ash, Karisma, Kareena, Priyanka and Lara are best suited for him. HE SHUD definitely be given some roles with the gorgeous and sensual SUSHMITA and may be stop stagnating with PRIYANKA. I would definitely like to see him again with Preity Zinta. and also our Queen of hearts Rani. I’m sure a sensitive movie with Tabu and Akki would click now.
