http://www.alexa.com. Perplexed by the choice of topics offered by MS. For once I was sure that this website won;t be available for review on MS. To my utter delight, MS proved me wrong.
Wonder if MS follows the same PROPRIETARY SORT technology for choosing topics too like the ones for Hot Reviews and Star writers. Doubt if they use the SORT for Mouthpad too;-) and hence the wait forever. Anyhow, some time back we ran into an issue of website clogging which caused to bring down some of our unnecessary applications(there are so many, I don’t know why they were alive in the first place). Had this cursiosity building up to understand why so many uninvited guests visited us, all at once. My curiosity led to ....where else... GOOGLE guruji. Google led VATS to https://alexa.com.
This site basically tracks the traffic of netizens to the various websites. After learning some interesting facts on this website, could not resist than trying out various features offered. Some of them are-->
Search : (there are so many of them these days. One thing I liked is you can search zip files available anywhere over net, filter content, etc).
Traffic Rankings: The ranking is based on a formula used by Alexa to find the consistency of users visiting a particular site.Get Traffic Details: The best of all. This is where I came to know that MSians log onto Net mostly from work unlike me who has to get back home to get on to MS, unless I am working from home which is rare. A complete picture of the activity on a website. Number of visits during a day, week, month, etc.
Some things observed... Mouthshut comes alive on Wednesdays and Thursdays and in the middle of the month compared to other times. This was in Nov/Dec last time when I chanced upon the traffic details. For more information, log onto this website and enter https://alexa.com and hit the Get Traffic Details button. You can also compare one website with other and many other interesting facts/
Directory:
You can browse for websites based on your interest and check for the mostly viewed or visited webpages. Helps one to be updated about where people on the internet are looking information for?
Global Top 500 like the Forbes 500:
This is like the fortune 500 list or Forbes 500;-). Its a compilation of the Top 500 mostly visited websites. Usually, its the fight among Yahoo/MSN/Google/Baidu. orkut is catching up these days with DESH mein BROAdBAND fever.
Movers and Shakers:
The best thing about this section is that you come to know about so many interesting things happening around the world. This section consists of the top 10 websites which have seen quite a remarkable number of visits in the recent times, rather a sudden interest by browsers to visit these sites for some or the other reason.
Two of the interesting websites that I came to know from this traffic inspector are listed below. Just check it out when you get a chance and you will come out with your own.
1) Humming Search (https://nayio.com)
After reading Aam aadmi’s views on a Mallu fillum, could not resist writing about something that reminded me while humming his tunes in words. What if our Aam Aadmi sings the Kuhu kuhus from the Mallu flick, records it and uploads it somewhere on the internet with a Fake name (are you surprised)? Do you think one would still be able to trace that its an Aam Aadmi’s voice?
Guess so.... if I meet him to confirm on his voice, which sure I would do while in Blr next time or able to trace the sequence of the Kuhus and Taktas he typed in. Neways, in the age of Lie Detection Software becoming a common feature to see if your girlfriend or boyfriend is lying on you and technologies being developed to smell fragrances on the Internet (Believe me its true, perfume companies see it as a revolution in their sphere but am sure once the ’aroma on the net’ technology matures, indian spices will be the most searched ones;-)), sharing your audios recordings on the internet and then Somebody like me googling it up should not surprise you.
The only difference in here is the verb Googling (which has been added to the Oxford English Dictionary last year), has to take a back seat. While searching for audio recordings on the internet, Google still has to come up with something, not just buying YouTube.
http://www.nayio.com which is basically ahead of Google in this area of search. Nayio has a studio which can be downloaded free and installed. Once you download the Nayio studio, you can search for any humming by Aam Aadmi or anybody who has uploaded his voice. There is an option of recording your voice and uploading it too from within the Studio.
Although there are so many websites to showcase your talent by uploading your recordings, this one stands apart for many reasons. Most of the other websites do a search based on the tags or keywords associated with the uploading or recording.Websites like these once matured, plagiarism will be made more evident.
2) (Just one Idea) https://milliondollarhomepage.com/
This, at one time in November, was the most visited website. A very simple but novel idea by a student aspiring to study business created this website to make some money by selling 1 million pixels(each pixel for one dollar each) for an image. Interesting story. You will know more.
If you are a webmaster, no doubt you would be interested, Even otherwise, check it out. It won’t dissappoint. Let me know your views in the comments after you visit to these sites/
