Good – but not as good as his tv series

This is not one of those films you will be going to see for it’s excellent storyline. Neither will you find amazing special effects. If you are in the mood for some crude humour however, you will probably enjoy it. I went to see this film because I like Ali G’s tv series. It’s nothing like it. I was mildly amused though and it does have it’s moments.

The films attempted storyline is that Ali is running as a candidate for Staines in Parliament. He has been set up to embarrass the Prime Minister. Ali is elected then finds out that there are plans to build an airport terminal on Staines. Ali turns the story around so that the Prime Minister is set up and everyone lives happily ever after. That’s the entire story, in three lines, so you can imagine it’s not the best film you’ll be seeing this year!! Anyway, the reason for seeing this film would not be for the story but for the typical Ali G humour we have come to expect, and you won’t be disappointed. Sacha Baron Cohen was made for this part, he IS the film. He is hilarious, just his accent makes me laugh! He has some great lines, some you will be quoting weeks afterwards (always the mark of a memorable film), my favourite being, “You is a lot better looking in real life than of the back of those coins”, or something like that??!!

The other characters in the film are also great, Kellie Bright plays Me Julie and is everything you imagined her to be. You obviously will get your scantily clad women (what do you expect with Ali G!!) so taking your little brother to see this film may not be a wise move. I don’t think the film is as funny as the TV series. I would say it’s worth seeing but I would wait for the video. It’s more of a ‘video night in with your mates’ film that a cinema one.
