Aligarians proud to be have a great Central University i.e. Aligarh Muslim University. It was founded by the great Muslim reformer Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as a Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875. The Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College became Aligarh Muslim University in 1920.The University maintains a number of Colleges, Schools, Insitutes including Women’s College, Department of Professional Courses, Centre of different languages and providing a school for visually challenged student etc. AMU declared as an Institution of National Importance under the Article 246 of the Constitution. From NAAC AMU accredited by the’A’ Grade. Maulana Azad Library is the Central Library of the Aligarh Muslim University. It is one of the largest University libraries of the World which possesses about 18, 00, 000 volumes of books and 55, 097 current journals in hard and soft copies.
